Meeting the China Challenge

You just cannot have both way around. That ends in tragic way always.

Result is, The US is playing you cunning, and Russia will play you hardball.
The thing is no one dictates what we do, neither in the past nor in the future ! If there was ever a true neutral foreign policy during the Cold War era it was IND's doctrine before we started to gravitate towards Moscow with the US incident in 1971 but now though its more like semipro US cause of Russia's terrible history(cost overruns) in defence deals.

do read about the diplomatic power of India . we do not shout from the roof tops ,but eventually get our work done in every thing and everywhere we go . as to Indo Russian relationship , i would advice you to look beyond the manure fed to you from your media and understand though we have a relationship with Russia for 5 decades . there has been no major problems which have not been worked out by dialogue. that shows the strength on which we have built this relationship . we keep all parties in the loop when we take a stand.

In short strings of pearls is big fail and one should not bully its neighbors too much to the point that it makes them stand and give a befitting reply.

Borg’s advice to India:

Resistance is Futile – You will be ASSIMILATED

Beijing is predictably unhappy about this convergence of the world's superpower
Unhappy?why?what does China lose from this meeting?

This article called Japan,a mistress of the US(a famous Japanese politician Shintaro Ishihara openly called itself that while facing domestic media lately ), a superpower and put the obedient mistress with India together. So it's what India get from this ...grand meeting!

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, during her visit to India earlier this year, asked India "not just to look east, but to engage east and act east as well." India has responded with a renewed focus on its Look East Policy
Just as when a master don't want to do something dangerous he will command his hatchet man to do this.

There are growing calls for another initiative involving the U.S., Australia and India. There is a distinct convergence of interests among these three countries across of a range of issues including the security of global commons, maritime security and counterterrorism. Trilateral coordination would be the next logical step
Oh,your prime minister knows better than to do so.Don't you know he has overtly issued his rejection of this call recently?

I know what assimilate means,

as·sim·i·late (-sm-lt)
v. as·sim·i·lat·ed, as·sim·i·lat·ing, as·sim·i·lates
v.tr.
1. Physiology
a. To consume and incorporate (nutrients) into the body after digestion.
b. To transform (food) into living tissue by the process of anabolism; metabolize constructively.
2. To incorporate and absorb into the mind: assimilate knowledge.
3. To make similar; cause to resemble.
4. Linguistics To alter (a sound) by assimilation.
5. To absorb (immigrants or a culturally distinct group) into the prevailing culture.

But what does 'assimilated' mean in the below context. Did he possibly mean annihilated - and who is this Borg and when did he advice India?

Resistance is Futile – You will be ASSIMILATED}

Sorry guys, I forget some of you are too young to have watched some of the EPIC Episodes of "Star Trek - The next Generation", some fifteen years ago.

Or maybe that show never ran in India. Anyway, If you get the show on video , it is worth watching.

Borg were these half human half Machines with a collective mind and they went along snatching humans to join them.

That line is the most famous line of the show, " Resistence is futile, you will be assimilated".

That is the context here. Try to Google it.

India's relationship wid US is on economic front rather than militiary and vice versa with Russia India has sumhow managed its Non-Aligned nature since the inception(recent example is India's stand on syria resolution in UN and in case of Iran's nuclear weapon program)..so in no case we r double crossing Russians.
