May be PM Modi Meant Meditate and Donald Trump Heard Mediate, Says Salman Khurshid

.
It's interesting to see the change in Pakistanis' views of Trump after Imran Khan's visit. Are you guys really this fickle that a simple meeting of statesmen is all it takes to win you over?

I mean Trump says a lot of things. The idea of him acting as a mediator is laughable at best. The amount of understanding he has of the Kashmir conflict or of either of our cultures is next to nothing.

GoI has already released a statement denying this absurd claim by Donald and that's all they need do.

Have some self-respect, please.
Lmao u should really read what u r saying here. Let it sink in...and u will see that it is YOU(India/Indians) who need to have self respect.

All the threads on PDF where this discussion over Trump's mediation in Kashmir is being talked about...Pakistanis are more involved in mocking India's reaction to it rather than praising Trump. Everyone already knows how Trump is...it's not that all of a sudden Pakistanis have a different perspective on Trump...it is instead the Indians who have changed their perspective...that's what's laughable. U guys used to worship him when he would say anti Pak things...and now that he made a statement that doesn't sit right with ur(Indian) mindset all of a sudden u guys turn on him. Have some self respect.

Mumbai: Confusion between `mediate' and 'meditate' might have led US President Donald Trump to believe that India wanted him to intervene in the Kashmir issue, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid quipped on Thursday.

India has denied Trump's claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested him to mediate between India and Pakistan for resolving the Kashmir issue. Khurshid was speaking at the launch of his book "Visible Muslim, Invisible Citizen: Understanding Islam in Indian Democracy" here.

Referring to the controversy, the former external affairs minister said in a lighter vein, "May be prime minister Modi wanted to say why don't you meditate for Yoga, and he thought Modi was asking to mediate.

"It was a problem of communication. But diplomacy is all about communication and if you are not able to communicate properly, what kind of diplomacy you are having," he added.

The Congress leader praised external affairs minister S Jaishankar, citing his track record as a diplomat. "He has a very outstanding record and we have such a bright foreign minister, who has left remarkable legacy behind him (as foreign secretary). But I can say only sorry for him," Khurshid added.

During an interaction which followed the book release, Khurshid fielded questions about what it means to be Muslim in contemporary India.

"Muslims are gradually disappearing from the public discourse and we need to have a deep understanding why it is happening," he said. However, floating a party specially for Muslims won't help, he said.

"They can take shelter in liberal parties, but liberal parties also need to prove that they are actually liberal," the Congress leader added. Religious and political leaders should join hands to offer a modern interpretation of Islam, as done by poet Allama Iqbal in the past, Khurshid said.

Islam is a very flexible religion and its flexibility allows its followers to do anything if their intentions are pure, Khurshid opined.

He also stated that there are a lot of non-Muslims "who have always stood behind Muslims and have supported them", and majority of Hindus and Muslims believe in the Constitution.

Khursid has copied these lines from a very good satire doing the round in social media these days. It is a classic. I am searching it and will post if come across it again.

I would believe it if Modi said decapitate, decrepitate or decimate, but seriously, meditate coming out from this pint sized tin pot Nazi?

After this clarification by Salman Khurshid, now it is imperative for both India and Pakistan, to sit together for locating and delineating some appropriate place, at the Line of Control (LOC), where the Saint Trump is going to meditate, in seclusion. The place shall, of course, be such, which is not susceptible to cross border firing and shelling; otherwise the Saint may become a Martyr, as well.:p::p::p:

lol...

Indian leadership wants Indians to think what Modi said is actually...
"Do you want to mediate between India and Pakitan on Kashmir?" This would practically mean

"Mr. Trump, do you want to (sit between India and Pakistan and) Metate on (thinking about) Kashmir?"

Its a free offer by the Indian leadership to become a c*iya and offer is available to all Indians. Who wants to be one?

Anyone with half a brain would understand that Trump is either making this up or he misunderstood something somewhere.

A country which is not even giving bilateral talks on Kashmir to Pakistan, why would it seek third party engagement ? It makes no sense whatsoever. I am sure even some intelligent Pakistanis understand this, but don't expect most members on this forum to understand or they will pretend not to understand.

In any case, how does it matter what Trump says ? India has now officially denied that no such 3rd party engagement is sought. That ends it.

Even if 'meditate' was used why did Modi reply with 'Kashmir' when asked where. Did Modi want Trump to meditate in Kashmir? And since we have had Trump's aide state "the President does not lie' suggesting that White House is holding it's ground as to what was said.

You know. Trump, his advisors, and patriotic Americans know he would never lie in such a way!

He literally quoted Modi word to word, and the replies.

And now they will be able to see the true face of India, a bunch of non trustable liars! Good exposure : )

Go see my history, I have always been supportive of him. For rest, I cannot speak. But it's nice that I proved to be right.

Trump may visit Azad Kashmir when he is invited by PM Khan. He has made it clear that Kashmir is a beautiful place deserving of peace and not bombs and violence.

Stop being the White man's slave. :pakistan::lol:

The Indian CEOs are the same people who went abroad, gave up their citizenship and swore in court to always and always uphold American interests, are these the people you praise?

Only Indians have a dilemma with whites.

Anyone with half a brain would understand that Trump is either making this up or he misunderstood something somewhere.

You need to understand why India cannot say this in the open. If they do, they are setting a precedent and inviting UN. Diplomacy happens behind closed doors, same way Gulf has growing relations with Israel, on surface they continue to deny.

Same is the case here. It is childish to think that either of the two countries can take "back" the other half of the Kashmir. I find it funny when people from either sides say that they must leave Kashmir. Yeah, surely that will happen.

Two solutions: Nuclear fallout, or talks. And if mediation is what it takes, both countries will take it.

What India doesn't want is the self determination, as per UN because India knows it will lose vote in most sectors of Kashmir to either independence or a merger with Pakistan whereas Pakistan will lose nothing because >95% residents of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir want to remain with Pakistan.

And so to keep that UN self determination vote being given a basis and keep it out of way, publicly they have to reject it as anything more than a bilateral issue. And so, India is looking for mediation behind closed doors and the current Modi Government is probably assessing how to go about it. They haven't decided yet but they are probably assessing it.

We understand that, but if your former minister is saying it now, it gives more value to that narrative, as he understand the internal workings and tricks.
