Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 international contest starts on Aug. 8

Military equipment and reconstructions of WWII battles will be demonstrated before the start of Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 contest within the Army Games 2015, the press service and information department of the Russian defense ministry told reporters on Aug. 7.
The ministry's press service said that in the run-up to the Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 contest, at the competition's opening ceremony, participants from Russia, China, Pakistan, Venezuela, Belarus and Egypt will be witnessing "a dynamic show of Russian weaponry and military equipment, with elements of some WWII historic reconstruction."
"The crews will demonstrate their mastery in eliminating various air targets, including moving ones, in the course of a tactical air defense battle. Live-fire exercises will be carried out using Igla Man-Portable Air Defense [MANPAD] systems, Tunguska self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon systems, as well as 23mm ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns. In order to complete the firing tasks, 500 rounds will be used," the defense ministry said.
In addition to this, in the course of the static show, the teams participating in the competitions will be able to familiarize themselves with modern types of weapons of the air defense forces of the Russian Army, as well as with historical types of Russian combat equipment and weaponry.
"Servicemen representing the nations that participate in the competitions will be shown the SA-11 Osa, the SA-8 mobile air defense missile system, the Tor-MU antiaircraft missile system, the ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and the Strela-10 anti-aircraft system," the defense ministry said.
The ministry said that the historic equipment and weapons would include the following items: one 122mm field howitzer dated back to 1910, one double-barreled ZPU-2 14.5mm antiaircraft gun dated 1949, and one 37mm 61-K automatic anti-aircraft gun dated 1939. "In total, during dynamic and static shows, almost 30 items of combat equipment and weaponry will be used," the ministry said.
The Masters of Air Defense Battle-2015 contest will be held on August 8-12. More than 100 troops and over 70 weapon systems and items of equipment will take part in the competitions

Chief Referee of the International Games Major General Dmitry Gorbatenko summed up the preliminary results of the competitions
On August 9, the first stages of “Masters of air defence” and “Masters of artillery fire” were underway.
The 1st stage (Individual race) held within the “Masters of air defence” contest is finished. The crew from China showed the best time, the team from Russia occupied the second place, the crew No.2 from China has become the third.
Summing up the results of the Individual race, People’s Republic of China occupies the 1st place, Russia – the 2nd place, Republic of Belarus – the 3rd place, Venezuela and Angola shared the 4th place.
Yesterday the contest “Masters of air defence” has finished in Yeysk. The crew from the Russian Federation showed the best time, the second place is occupied by the Republic of Belarus, and the third – by the crew of Egypt.
Summing the results of all the contests, the general rating of the countries-participants is as this: 1st place – Russia, 2nd place – China, 3rd place – Belarus.
For today, 5 of 13 contests are already finished: “Masters of air defence”, “Caspian cup”, “Open water”, “Aviadarts”, “Masters of automobile and tank hardware”.
On August 10, the “Relay race” is held within “Caspian derby” and “Masters of artillery fire”. “Pursuit race” is held in Ryazan within the “Airborne platoon” contest while the stage “Arriving to the assembly area after mission accomplishment” is carried out on the territory of the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School within the contest “Master of reconnaissance”.
Preparations for the new stages are held at the contests “Tank biathlon”, “Suvorov onslaught” and “Safe route”.

It comes as no surprise that Russia won this competition with Belarus coming second (as they have pretty much every other one) but I think the Egyptian team did a great job beating out China and Venezuela for third considering the time they had to familiarise themselves with the weapons systems and equipment used.
