Markaz leadership resisted, then NSA Ajit Doval dropped by at 2 am

When Maulana Saad, head of Nizamuddin Markaz, refused to yield to pleas from Delhi Police and security agencies to vacate the Banglewali Masjid, Home Minister Amit Shah requested National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to get the job done.

According to top Home Ministry officials, Doval reached around 2.00 am on March 28-29 night at the markaz and convinced Maulana Saad to get the occupants to be tested for the Covid-19 infection and be quarantined. Shah and Doval knew about the situation building up since the security agencies had tracked down the nine test positive Indonesians at Karimnagar, in Telangana, to the markaz on March 18 itself.

This, officials said, had happened despite the government's repeated reminders to file visa requests under the missionary category. They will be blacklisted from entering the country again.

Apart from the foreigners, a massive effort is also afoot to identify all Indians who attended the congregations in Delhi or came in close contact with people who did. They are also being screened for Covid-19 and placed in quarantine.

The Tablighi Jamaat was founded by Maulana Ilyas Kandhlawi, great grandfather of Maulana Saad, in the Mewati region. The Tablighis, then comprised of Muslim converts of Mewati rural population, fought with Rana Sangha of Mewar against Babur in Battle of Khanwa near Bharatpur against Mughal ruler Babur in 1527 after the first Battle of Panipat. The Jamaat purely focuses on Quran to preach on how to be a good Muslim with the objective of proselytisation.

The movement has now been split into many factions with Pakistan using the Tablighis to take control of the group in South Asia and use it for spreading radical preaching.

PA is is blamed whenever they try to use cross border terrorism and sneak in / help sneak in jihadis.

The markaz maulana wouldn't listen and so the police and Shah were kind to him by sending his friend Doval in to ask nicely; if he still didn't listen it'd been bad consequences for the maulana.

You need to make up your mind what is your actual objection towards Tableeghis. That they stayed at the markaz or not stayed at the markaz

In a release, the Jamaat, which hosts worshippers round the year, said: “When the Prime Minister announced the Janata curfew for March 22, the ongoing programme in the Markaz was discontinued immediately. However, due to the sudden cancellation of rail services across the country on March 21, a large group of visitors got stuck in the Markaz premises. Before the Janata curfew could be lifted, the Chief Minister of Delhi announced a lockdown of Delhi, beginning at 6 a.m. on March 23.

“On the evening of March 23, a further nationwide lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister with a clear message for people to stay put wherever they were. Under such compelling circumstances there was no option for the Markaz but to accommodate the stranded visitors with prescribed medical precautions until the situation became conducive for their movement or arrangements were made by the authorities.”

The Islamic body also said that on March 24, a notice was sent by the local police station to close the premises and that it was complying with orders. Around 1,500 people had departed the previous day, it added.

The body said it had also requested the sub-divisional magistrate to issue vehicle passes so that the remaining people could be sent back to their native places outside Delhi. It submitted a list of 17 vehicles with registration numbers and the names of the drivers along with their licence details. The requisite permission is still awaited, it said.

On March 30, a news agency said that the Delhi Chief Minister had directed the authorities to take legal action against the Markaz administration. “The Markaz never violated any provision of law,” the body said.

Meanwhile, more than 300 participants have been moved to various hospitals in Delhi with symptoms of the virus.

Come on man...These ulema's are like regular citizen..These guys are worried to be tested like rest of the Indian citizen due to social stigma associated with it...That does not mean, it is an issue if our agencies discuss with any regular citizen..You can compare it with PA negotiating with terrorist people....

Let us accept your argument for some time. Govt is incompetent...Does that assolve all the responsibillities of the citizens? Does it allow to commit something which is perceived to be wrong even if Govt is incompetent? We are using one execuse at the expense of another to score our political points.....The same thing can happen in Pakistan too..

First of all, Govt has to share some blame that they did not react quickly...But in this whatsapp and media age, how come to these people, can be so irresponsible. It is like these religious heads have put the life of all those people in danger by allowing to go ahead with this festival/meeting.
