I' sure unhappiness in India is related mostly about dissatisfaction and unfulfillment expectation. Also since India is free democratic country as well as highly political so people are much more vocal about negative aspects they encounter in life.

You see GDP per capita is not a yardstick, if there is unequal distribution of wealth, that figure is meaningless.

India had been little high because few Businessmen have become Multi Billionaire. So their wealth takes the figure high. But over 65% of Indians are really really poor.
