It seems like the more developed areas of the world are less likely to pray.

And the less developed and more unstable parts of the world (Africa and the Middle East) pray the most.

That has more to do with imposed proxy wars, oil, and new neocolonialism than personal habits of the people.

Americans also play identity politics and give cursory allegiance to religion, but most don’t actually believe properly. A Newsweek article I read several years ago stated 60% Americans don’t believe in angels.

The center of Godless world and its biggest supporter is the US.

I think that was one of the major reasons, historically speaking.

I'm from Hong Kong, and there are more people here who still practice Chinese folk religion and Chinese Buddhism/Taoism etc.

However even in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, religion plays very little importance in people's daily lives. It's seen as more of a cultural thing.

No. China has been a multi-God society for very long time. It means that you could believe in whatever or whoever God that suits you. Any religion was allowed and tolerated in China.

Like I said, even in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore this is true.

Communism in the Mainland was only a part of the trend, but the trend happened even outside the Mainland as well.
