KOLKATA: The Maoist )s today said they would consider a proposal for talks with the Mamata Banerjee government if the Chief Minister spelled out her stand on junglemahal.

"Immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, Banerjee said she was ready to hold talks to sort out problems in junglemahal, but she did not speak about specific plans," West Bengal state committee members of Communist Party of India (Maoist) Bikram and Bikas said in a faxed statement here.

"If she creates a favourable situation, we are ready to consider the proposal for joining talks," they said.

Hailing the chief minister's proposal to return 400 acre as promised at Singur to farmers who unwillingly parted with their land for the Nano project, they said though she was defining problems in clear terms, "she is silent on the withdrawal of joint forces which was not only our demand, but her's too."

The statement said, "If she comes out with a definite plan on these issues we will consider a proposal for talks with the government."

Wat r the demands of the maoists??? separate state??

Ghanta seperate state. Their fight started as a movement ostensibly for tribals deprived of development and over a period of time it became just another terrorist insurgency responsible for the killing of numerous innocent civilians and poor policemen.

No, they want better deal for poor and adivasis. But at the same time, they are against development.

if they dont want any separate state and want good deal for the poor and adivasis, then centre n state should talk to them and give them a special status to uplift the adivasis and provide them job

The term Naxalites comes from Naxalbari, a small village in West Bengal, they r inspired by the doctrines of Mao Zedong.

Naxals, advocate that Indian peasants and lower class tribals overthrow the government and upper classes by force!

Today, some Naxalite groups have become legal organisations participating in parliamentary elections, such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Others, such as the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Janashakti, are engaged in armed guerrilla struggles.

Naxalites claim to be supported by the poorest rural populations, especially Adivasis. They have frequently targeted tribal, police and government workers in what they say is a fight for improved land rights and more jobs for neglected agricultural labourers and the poor and follow a strategy of rural rebellion similar to that of the protracted People's War against the government.

However frequent killings of villagers, using women and children as shield, harassment of cadre, illegal mining operations, attacks on schools & infrastructure projects and using childrens, as young as 6 years old have called into question the Naxal claims of 'fighting for people'.

Govt should talk. We are talking with so many other terror groups who want separate country. Why not to maoists.

Talks should start as soon as possible. We've already talked with the Assam militants.. It's not like these guys are fighting for a separate state..

.
Maoist issue must be sorted out immediately... the key should be to provide adivasis with jobs and shelter...the development programs must reach them and not being eaten away by some babus
