Sixteen policemen have reportedly been killed after a group of nearly 20 Maoists attacked a police camp in West Midnapore.
The government has rushed reinforcements to the area.
Reports say that the Maoists arrived on motorcycles at the camp in Silda and opened fire.
Maoist leader Kishenji has claimed responsibility for the attack. He has told local media that the Naxals want security forces to withdraw from the Lalgarh area.
This part of West Midnapore has been on edge since November, 2008, when a landmine blast seemed to target Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. The police started raiding homes in the area, but many tribals were attacked and killed; security forces also repeatedly violated basic human rights. The Naxals in the area conmbined with the triabals to retaliate against security personnel and workers of the ruling CPI(M). Finally, last summer, the centre and state governments sent in combined forces to reclaim Lalgarh.
For how long are we going to bear this ? We start crying when 8 people are killed in a blast but what about these incidents? These ****** maoists and naxals deserve to be massacred and EXTERMINATED.They kill way more people than any terrorists. They are a bigger danger than lashkar or any other terrorist group. Why can't be send the army and finish these pests once and for all?
