Islamabad - A credit line of $1.5 billion from the Turkish government for manufacturing parts of T129 Turkish attack helicopters in Pakistan was a key attraction for Pakistani negotiators in recent days in sealing the crucial deal.

Pakistan has requested the financial arrangement from Turkey for manufacturing spare parts of the T129s choppers and the Turkish government is working to allocate $1.5 billion in credit , sources said.

The Pakistan Army has selected the T129 attack helicopters to replace its aging AH-1F/S Cobra attack helicopters and to complement the Bell Helicopter AH-1Z Viper.

Besides exploring the credit to back the deal, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has also offered Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) parts manufacturing work for the T129 choppers.

According to the sources, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi during his recent visit to Turkey , where he participated in the D-8 conference, interacted with senior TAI officials and pushed the process to finalize the deal, the sources said.

According to the sources, negotiations with the Turkish authorities have entered the final phase.

In 2016, the Pakistan Army evaluated the T129 and the Changhe Aircraft Industries Corporation Z-10 to complement the Bell Helicopter AH-1Z Viper.

Pakistan was overwhelmed by the T129’s hot-and-high performance and ferry range. Besides integrating PAC into the T129 supply channel (for spare parts), the programme could also lead to bilateral collaboration in avionics, optronics and munitions development.

According to the sources, if the deal materializes, the Pakistan Army, the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Air Force would use the helicopters to meet its growing needs.

On the other hand, Pakistan has a signed a deal to sell its Super Mushak trainer aircraft to Turkey .

Elhamdulillah!!!! I am pretty sure these "monitory" amounts are for book keeping purposes only and even the financial controllers don't give a damn!!!! If they really want to itemize the payment methods, IMO the forefathers of the sub-continental Muslims paid it in full long time back....

Turkey and China two best friends of Pakistan  .
Pakistan should also try to join other Turkish helicopter programs .

I think perhaps this is the first step towards Pakistan building their own T129 in the future. Spare parts production is also how Turkey gained the necessary know-how prior to our own growth. And Pakistan has know-how from other fields so I'm excited to see and hear how Pakistan is going to grow further.

Does common Turks know how Muslims of subcontinent rushed to help Ottoman empire in WW1?

IA MBT's will face a formidable gunship in the form of T-129 using fire and forget ATGM's.

Can T-129 control UCAV's?

If I knew defense industry required so much flirting I would have become a behavioral psychologist instead. Just buy the thing already :D:D:D

This is pretty much a concluded deal. Everyone in Turkey knows that $1.5 billion for Pakistan is no problem given the context of our brotherly relations with Pakistanis and how they've always come to OUR aid in the past, and also given how we've spent $30 billion USD to date for hosting 3+ million Syrian and Iraqi refugees throughout Turkey just because, well... we can.

I want to say congratulations to both TAI and PAC on their fantastic deal. Pakistan has surely made a great gunship choice given their hot & high geography and both conventional and asymmetric threat environments. T129 will surely prove indispensable. It's also great that Pakistan will be able to produce a good chunk of the parts for it and perhaps even supply TAI for some. This creates the additional possibility for joint development and production of weapons like UMTAS anti-tank missiles and Cirit laser guided rockets in Pakistan, possibly doubling or tripling the project value over the next 5-10 years. It's a win-win for both countries.
