New Delhi: Days after a top US magazine dubbed him as 'underachiever', Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has now been tagged as a 'tragic figure' by leading US daily.

The report has created a furore with political reactions pouring in for the 'silent' PM.

A report published in Washington Post has described Singh as 'silent' PM. ".....the shy, soft-spoken 79-year-old is in danger of going down in history as a failure," report says.

Claiming that Manmohan is presiding over a deeply corrupt government, the write-up in Washington Post says: "But the image of the scrupulously honorable, humble and intellectual technocrat has slowly given way to a completely different one: a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government." The report also mentions the poor functioning of Parliament following Opposition's uproar over resignation of PM. "Every day for the past two weeks, India’s Parliament has been adjourned as the opposition bays for Singh’s resignation over allegations of waste and corruption in the allocation of coal-mining concessions," the report says.

The report has also mentioned Singh's 'dramatic fall from grace' in his second term.

Taking a swipe at Manmohan over the report, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: "Tere Bhrastachar ke charche har zubaan par, sabko maalum hai, aur sabko khabar ho gayi."

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said: "What is so great about the Washington Post, every Post here is saying what the paper said."

The PM, following his 'silence' over corrupt government, has been under criticism in the international media earlier. Notably, the TIME Magazine in July had dubbed Singh as 'underachiever' saying he appeared "unwilling to stick his neck out" on reforms that will put the country back on growth path.

79-year-old Singh was featured on the cover of Time magazine's Asia edition. With his portrait in the background, the title on the cover reads 'The Underachiever - India needs a reboot'.

Past achievements will be forgotten with present failures!

Manmohan Singh is fine, we could have alot more worse people becoming the PM.

Hopes on 2014 elections.

what is the use of he being honest if he can't stop people stealing under his nose ?
we need somebody better..personally I like NITHISH KUMAR, RAHUL GANDHI.

An appeal to all nation's-Let India be all by herself,we know how to take care of ourselves and we also know how to straighten our economy and how to whip enemy *** so no need to worry about us.Just worry about urselves!!

LOL you serious ?
why not we don't know yet whether he is good or not ? in my opinion he should take charge as prime minister now so we will get to know whether he is good or not to be re elected for 2014.

In wikileaks American diplomats had low opinions on Rahul as PM, they thought Pranab da had a better chance.

Yaara this country may not bear another 5 year of misrule. This is no time to take a chance with an untested product. And frankly cant you judge him from all his time in politics. Running a country is not the same as eating dinner with kalawati or carrying a fake plastic bucket in a field. How many administrative positions has this guy been in that you are willing to entrust the running of a country to him ? Has he atleast been a panchayat chairman ?

And who do you think is the real power behind the robot. None other than the Gandhi clan blood that you mentioned.

Every time raul gandhi go for campaign, his party losses

if I am to vote against congress , the other option is bjp unless anna hazare come up with a party.

I like leaders like sushma and arun jaitly, rudy etc but not your super duper modi for obvious reasons.

in the corruption matter bjp ministers also is not far behind and the party ignored corruption in karnataka (yadurappa) to survive.
