Man With US Passport Blows Himself up in Pakistan
KARACHI, Pakistan November 19, 2011 (AP)

A suspected militant who blew himself up in southern Pakistan during a raid by security forces was carrying a U.S. and a Pakistani passport, authorities said Saturday.

According to a statement by Pakistan's paramilitary Rangers, the dead man has been identified as Saeed Abdul Salam. He detonated an explosive device Thursday when troops raided his apartment in the port city of Karachi.

Post-mortem tests on Salam's body confirmed the man died due to the explosion of a hand grenade, it said, adding "documents used for acts of terrorism were also recovered" from his possession.

The U.S. Embassy could not immediately confirm the development.

The Rangers' statement said Salam had divorced his wife a month ago and was living with four children, who were unharmed. According to Salam's passport, he had traveled to many countries, the statement said.

Karachi is home to around 18 million people and is the capital of Sindh province. Several al-Qaida and Taliban operatives have been captured or killed there in recent years.

He also apparently threw his computer and cell phone from the balcony.

^^^ A question. Why is Karachi becoming such an attraction for all jihadi-wannabes ? Is it a law and order problem or the issue runs deeper than that ? Do the terrorists take advantage of the political splinter between MQM and PPP ? The Karachi we used to know is no longer the Karachi of today. Ever since the Jinnahpur incident and Op. Clean-up, Karachi's been spiraling towards anarchy and lawlessness, looks like.

Karachi has been a hub for terrorists since 2002. Its a port city and a huge city, terrorists can easily come here and live here. MQM has been crying that taliban and other terrorists are moving into Karachi but PPP doesn't give a **** what happens here. Its amazing how all the terrorists are being captured from ANP's strongholds. ANP has illegal control of Rabia City, where this scumbag was living. Karachi was never the same after 1986 when armed Afghans backed by a political party attacked Qasba,Orangi and Aligarh Colonies and brutally killed 400 urdu speakers and Biharis. After that the 80s and 90s were filled with violence thanks to the "democratic" government and army.

And even with these mishaps Karachi continues to be an economic powerhouse with a great standard of living. Don't try to make it seem like its the next Kandahar or something.

taliban is not the problem, ANP is, and PPP itself is, it has been leaked that ANP and MQM conflicts are started on directives of zardari himself

Karachi is a huge sprawling city of many parts and complexions. Some parts of Karachi are as good as any city in the world, while some parts are places that would seem to be like "black holes" where even matter can disappear for ever. And that was in Karachi even in the 90s when I used to visit there. So it will be wrong and patently unfair to make any generalisation about Karachi. But the most people of Karachi (even very ordinary people at street level) that I met there were people who just aspired to live very normal lives and were just getting on with it. Besides, they were helpful and caring; especially to me.
I am pretty sure that has'nt changed inspite of the difficult times that sometimes affect Karachi.

Yeah..Karachi is a huge city indeed, among some of the largest cities in the World.

Its area is about 3600 sq. km,thats about 6 times of Mumbai, and has a population density 5 times less than that of Mumbai.

Being a port city,it has tremendous potentials

The urdu article (http://www.jasarat.com/unicode/detail.php?category=3&newsid=78826) above says that He was actually shot dead by the agencies, then the bomb was a setup..

But here is another article, showing the dubious nature of this "incident"

The Rangers have topped off an eight-hour targeted raid for a terrorist in Gulistan-e-Jauhar with a vague FIR, lacking in the details that they have verbalised.
Despite having identified the man who allegedly blew himself up with a hand grenade during a targeted operation in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the Rangers have left his name out of the FIR. They claim that they have linked him to a foreign terrorist group through his passport, laptop and literature found in his apartment. However this too has all been excluded from the FIR.
The paramilitary force first asked the police to file the FIR on their own behalf, but they were turned away. Finally, they sent one of their men, Najabat, to file the FIR No. 916/11 under the Explosives Act of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Pakistan Penal Code at the Sharae Faisal police station.

In his statement to the police, Najabat said that the suspect blew himself up when the Rangers conducted a raid at flat No. 306 of Rao Israr Heights in Gulistan-e-Jauhar early on Friday.
“They asked us to file an FIR on behalf of the police, but we gave them a flat out no,” SHO Chaudhry Azam told The Express Tribune. “The FIR does not have the suspect’s name in it, nor does it have any mention of the things recovered from his possession.”

When asked, Brigadier Waseem Ayub did not know much about the FIR. “He has been identified; the FIR will be filed with his name only,” was his ambiguous explanation.

Although the Rangers declared that the deceased was a terrorist, they did not disclose his link with any particular group. “We can prove he is linked with terrorists through information we found on his laptops, jihadi literature and terrorist equipment,” Ayub elaborated. “Obviously, since he had a US nationality, we believe he was with a foreign terrorist (group).”

According to the official handout issued on Saturday, the suspect, Moeed Abdul Salam, held valid Pakistani and US passports and had travelled to a number of countries. Documents related to terrorism have also been recovered from his possession, it added. Salam had been erroneously identified as Moeed Islam previously.
Rangers said that they have collected forensic evidence from the flat, such as DNA samples. The National Database and Registration Authority have picked up fingerprints and other data to confirm his identity.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s body is still at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth as nobody has approached the police or Edhi to claim it.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s four children are back with their mother. Their grandfather, Tanmizuddin, said that they were a bit traumatised by the whole incident.
Unconfirmed reports claim the suspect was linked with al Qaeda and may have been a commander in touch with terrorists in Waziristan. Rumours also linked him to the five terrorists killed at Sea View on Wednesday, however no officials have confirmed any of this.

So this means US has links to the terrorists too....in backing them.....so shameful and hypocritic attitude of the 1st world country against humanity....:smokin:
