Man booked under blasphemy law for defiling Bible

I cant cite the eaxt examples, but all such activities against other religions are considered a crime not only in Islam but also according to Pakistani law and dealt with in the same manner.

Of course. But given the recent events regarding making amends to the (in)famous Blasphemy Law in Pakistan, I wanted to know whether this law has been used previously to protect non-Islamic institutions or if this is the first case.

If it is indeed the first case, then this present usage of Section 295C would have unfavorable effects on calls being made for amends to the Blasphemy law.

Seriously? You think its OK to burn books but not OK to ban them? For a bibliophile, that is the most outrageous and ridiculous thing anyone could ever say!! Why burn books? Only nuts burn books. You dont like them, and there are pretty bad books out there, dont read them! Simple.

Nothing wrong in burning any book. We burn flags/effigies to show protest, what is special about books.
What is so outrageous about it.
Unless of course it is the original manuscript or has any such historical significance. That should belong to museum/library.

I am against banning because we are trying to kill the idea here, as it will not be easy to propagate.
However, with internet, you cant ban anything anyway.

Even then, banning shows we are intolerant of an idea, which I am against.(no matter how offensive the idea may be)

. .
That means you are an intollerant and insensitve person without any regard to others feelings. BTW when you sat you are pro-burning, that also means that you support burning the books/places you yourself believe in? if that is the case then you are a sick person.

I am not intollerant, as I tolerate others action here(burning of book).
Insensitive, may be. I guess we all can be a little more insensitive( or should I say little less sensitive).
Yes, I support burning of books I believe in, what is special with that. Ideas in the book remain anyway, they dont burn.
It is just a form of protest, should be allowed along with flag/effigy burning.
No I am not sick, am just doing fine. :)

Excuse my ignorance, but is this the first instance of Section 295C of PPC being applied to protect a non-Islamic religious institution?

The majority of the cases registered under this law have been against muslims. Infact more than 50%. Problem is that though the west and its media claim to be secular but they always highlight if the case is against any christian. people sometimes don't have any idea and they start bashing islam and sharia laws.
This illitrate stupid had no idea what he was doing is fact more harmful for Islam and muslims. By no mean he was doing any favor to Islam or muslims.

You are missing the point you yourself make. By burning books, you are trying to kill an idea - the same as attempting a ban. Same thing, different form.

I have read reports and opinions about how this Blasphemy law is abused by people to settle personal scores - majority of victims being Muslims! That settling of personal scores gives that more than 50% statistic. However, just for info, I would like to know whether this is the first time that this law is being used against a Muslim to protect a non-Islamic institution.

Not at all. Please see the action of the people we are talking about. They surely are trying to use it as a form of protest. Not to obliterate an idea.
A ban on other hand does not even allow the idea to propagate, it is nipped in the bud.
A ban usually a position people in power take(govt).
Surely if the news item is, govt X banned the book Y, and burnt all copies of it, I will be against it.

Honestly burning a book doesn't do anything. It's just ink. It's sad to see people going nuts over paper covered with ink being burned. You can burn a book but you can't burn the ideology/message behind it.

It was never proven that Aisa Bibi was "blasphemer". This dude was caught red handed trying to burn a bible, and no I have no sympathy for a guy who makes gives Islam a bad name by trying to burn someone else's religious book.

Why should the Pakistani government "take action" over something that happens in Florida?!

Pakistan is not the protector of Islam. The government should take action to stop fundamentalism going on in Pakistan rather worry about what some crazy does in Florida.

Replace the Quran with a female relative of yours with a Pakistani nationality...

Do you hold anything above the book of Allah?
