Man 'bitten by funnel web' in New South Wales

A man was taken to hospital after being bitten by what was suspected to be a deadly funnel web spider.

According to reports, the 43-year-old was bitten on the knee on Wednesday, in the bush at Mount Kembla in Wollongong, NSW.

Special operations ambulance staff had to treat the man, the Illawarra Mercury reported.

A spokesman told the paper there was no positive identification of the spider.

A Wollongong Hospital spokeswoman told nine.com.au he has now been discharged.
