Malaysia: First World By 2020?

not worth the cost, it's only a dream Kra canal can made trio ASEAN Islands like Indo-SG-Malay suffer so much

Yeah. i mean, if they have the capitals, both money and political will to kick off this plan, sure this can be done. But, have they? China have already stepped back and denied their involvement in this plan. And if Thailand junta with their centralized power can't push this plan forward, then what make people believe such plan can ever be realized.

ROFL how can such small canal would make Indonesia suffers? we're literally keeping Australia, New Zealand, PNG, and Oceania hostages. would the creation of this canal damages Indonesia? nope. is that why you're so bitter about the canal issue, dude? :D

Why you must rolling on the floor while laughing mate, it's not my concern if Kra Canal goes on or not, but the entity of Batam free trade area is in line with the prosperity of Singapore, so with other capital investment in Indonesia in which located near Singapore area. Is a very logical for me if i am keep bitter against any unknown dude who keep saying Singapore will be weakened by the creation of this yet to be made canal, because Singapore is a logical friend for Indonesia in this region.

why i'm rolling about, my brah. your bitterness over some nearby country who's not even concerned about Indonesia is ROFL-ish. what's gotten into you? too much eating Chilli Crab? get a grip of yourself and get the crabs out of your nipples, my brah. it's an advice from your Senpai. do eet

Singapore isn't the logicalest friend, nope. they are commonly looking down on their neighbouring countries since they're the only first world country in the region. don't forget their White Supremacy too!

who cares if Batam will be out of use if kera canal is realized? it'll be better lessons for the Batam settlers so there will be no more smuggled goods, fake goods, prostitutes, etc. Batam isn't as important as there are PLENTY of important regions in the country.

there is neither friend nor close friend of Indonesia. keep the neutrality and pragmatist mentality. treat other nations equally because they are should be treated equally. got that?

If the Kra channel goes through.. Singapore will loose it's hub status.. I'm sure they're doing the best both multilaterally and covertly to stall the project

Singapore has enough diversification in their economy now that it wont have a huge impact like such a thing would have say in the 80s and 90s (and earlier).

Their investment funds and Temasek acquisition alone can propel them for a number of decades economically...and they have various growing hi-tech industries non-related to being a entrepot shipping hub anyway.

Malaysia same thing to a different degree.

I'm not implying that Singapore will crash and burn with the advent of the Kra canal.. As you rightly said it' economy is'ntnwholly basednon its trade.. But it will definitely impact its' status as the hub port of the ASEAN region.. Just look in to the history of the project.. You'd see how the British managed block it' construction for centuries tomprotect Singapore

True. But that was during the British when Singapore was a lot more dependent on its trade hub status.

Now even if they lose say 10k per capita in per capita income (and thats on the really high side) they will still be a 50k+ per capita income country.

It will have an impact like you say for sure, but I doubt Singapore is in the position to try undermine such a canal in the first place....nor will it be so worried since the servicing port infra in say Vietnam and southern Thailand will take time to fully mature anyways....giving even a longer buffer for Singapore to shift what little is dependent on trade to other economic areas.

Plus all these proposals have to first be turned into MOUs and then firm contracts.....thats when Singapore will be looking at the impact seriously anyway.

I already gave the evidence above. the top 3 rich southeast countries happened to relate to the percent of Chinese people in the same order. you can call that a coincidence if you like.

There is difference between hard facts and coincidence. Bring your evidence that Chinese are contributing more than the other communities.

Well it's a similar story regarding Hambantota port in Southern Sri Lanka.. Successive Singaporean govts have been successful in somehow halting it's construction since the 60's, In many covert and multilateral ways

So in hindsight i dont think Singaporeans or for that matter the US (Singapore has been a major outpost for US interests in the region outside Australia) will take it lightly.. Nobody wants to loose thier share of the pie.. The impact of the canal will be felt a decade and a half down the line, When as you mentioned the complimentary port infrastructures of IndoChina and Thailand will come in to full operation

I hope that both Malaysia and Indonasia become rich and first world countries by 2020. Best luck!

Wish us luck. Indonesia will need more time and support from all friendly nations to develop the whole archipelago.

Hmm, didn't know this. That's interesting.

Correct, do Sing-MY help USA to contain China ?? No, they dont.

US only can rely on VN to contain China, and we want US-JP-SK ships to dock in VN port for maintenance, oil supply etc

So, US has to make a wise choice between using Sing's port and VN's port :)
