What's new

Make in India' for 90 medium combat jets

They thought they could develop a fifth gen aircraft in AMCA.....when they can't even have their 4th gen ready. They are completely dependent on Russians for this (as like they were for MKIs and everything)......and wait till the development bill balloons to 100 Billion USD.

Wow, ballooning to a $100 Billion dollar bill.:o: What Russian help for the AMCA, btw? Are the Russians designing, prototyping, testing/validating, certificating the AMCA? And are they managing the whole program as well?

Well, no. Indians are managing the whole program, not Russians. When it's fully defined, some of the tech will come from abroad, like the engine could come from GE. And by in large, the designing, prototyping, testing/validating, certification process will be done by Indians.

Until the Indian private sector is given a substantial role in this endeavour, it will have little impact beyond anything the MKI contract could achieve for the Indian Defence Industry.

And since this is essentially a lockout bid that is only being done for accountabilities sake which means that at the end its just HAL and Dassault at it again till 2045.

Umm, can you please explain why the Navy is different......do they not represent the republic of India?

It's because smaller number aircrafts will be purchased ,

Adversary capabilities are not very high.

Even if everything gets grounded , airforce can cover to an extent

If its Dassault, it will be Reliance. If its Boeing, it will be Tata. LM may be Tata. Rest not sure. With this, what is effectively being told to HAL (and ADA) is to get current projects in place. Trainer, Tejas and AMCA. The FGFA project line will be with HAL.

Hence, I think, the lockout is being done to HAL and not to the private players.

It looks like we will get 126 RAFALES ; finally
Its the other way.
Even the deal is not yet final for 36 jets and you are celebrating for hypothetical figure of 126 rafales.

The so called mother of all deal and dead. Indian defence minister has already made it clear in the assesmbly but some kids are still talking about mmrca dead deal even today
