What's new

"Make in India" Drove FDI up by 56% - Manufacturing Sector Inflows up by 45%

Recent local body election results in Bengal should definitely worry Amit Shah.
as for Punjab, Akaali Dals mismanagement and rampant drug addiction problem (allegedly supported by elements of government) has led to strong anti incumbency and while i'm not sure of AAP's chances, doesn't look like the ruling alliance will garner a majority as it did last time around.

What worry , BJP forming government in Bengal will be a miracle hell if they manage to even emerge as primary opposition it'll be nothing short of spectacular as these are essentially waters where they have had zero presence earlier . As far as punjab is concerned with massive anti incumbency it is no brainer that akalis are in for a rout let the congress and AAP fight it out , BJP has no presence there .
The takeaway though is we are headed towards a congress mukt bharat - if you see all coming assembly elections be it Bihar,UP,Bengal,Punjab,Assam or Kerala their chances look very very bleak .

.
More than just 'risk'- TMC is surging in Bengal and BJP will be thrashed there. BJP is going to be thrashed in Punjab, AAP will probably form the government there. The juggernaut has stopped in its tracks.
BJP was never strong in Bengal and nor in Punjab...the kind of misrule that Badal's have done in Punjab there is no way they can win again....AAP was thrashed everywhere in LS election but won 4 seats in Punjab...it says a lot about what people of punjab are upto...i believe the real test would be in Bihar...

Land bill will be passed sooner or later by the Parliament - though there isn't much trouble in it being delayed - the government will bring another land ordinance in case the parliamentary session runs out to get the job done as always! :D
Land ordinance i already in place...however not a single inch acquired...so i guess early passage is very important...

Realistically thats what BJP would be planning, to get enough seats in SLA and try and become a credible opposition, give TMC some kind of scare. Also the fact that CPI is in pretty bad shape, gives BJP a chance to attract non TMC votes to shift their loyalties. Considering what happened in Delhi state elections (both Congress and BJP getting badly defeated) must tell that voters are ready to try alternate options beyond conventional trends. BJP must try and do that in WB.
@Rain Man @scorpionx Your take on the issue?

I do not think BJP held any such intentions, at least not in this municipal elections. One has to be insanely optimistic to believe that BJP can become the second leading party in Bengal. Look at their efforts from the beginning. The foundation workers are not listen to, tickets have been given to the birds of fair weather (Mostly Ex-TMCs), the party supremo does not posses basic rules and regulations of the elections and most unfortunate part is that the party seem to accept defeat even before the election began. While TMC, Congress and CPI M candidates were roaming door to door seeking votes, BJP party office was a scene of brutal infighting.

The people have started believing that there has been a 'back of the curtain' deal between BJP and TMC that you help us to move the bills through Rajya Sabha and we see your fortress remains unhurt in the state and all those rumors definitely have some solid grounds to be believed true. If BJP wants to win the main opposition seat it has to win some faith of the people first; Super political maneuvers and chanakya nitis are the only things people have seen so far from them..

Things will improve still further once some key reforms such as GST are put in place along with more clarity on Land Reforms amendment bill. Another key could be reduction in interest rates for domestic production ramp up.
Also recent statement by FM Arun Jaitley that Retrospective Tax will be kept on being deferred, should bring in clarity on Tax structure. This point alone spooked a lot of companies during UPA 2 tenure and glad that both governments realized it was a mistake and corrected the same.
We can definitely see larger growth rates from Third quarter of this fiscal year for sure.
& once that is done, i guess government should focus on Agriculture, which unfortunately is the laggard amongst all sectors affecting GDP growth rate significantly.

And also scrutiny of NGO's :P

Just heard yesterday some top US official expressing concern over recent crackdown on NGOs. Fishy isn't it?

Well i too was suspecting that some such understanding is existing, but thats alright considering it serves both BJP (wrt to numbers required in RS) and TMC (running WB in its own style).
I recently read some reports in India Today showing plight of Potato farmers in the state and strangely enough not much of reporting was given to it in media. & whats even baffling no opposition party has made hue and cry unlike what we get to see these days even on petty issue.
Secondly with Sitaram Yechury in command, CPI looks re-energized and if it pulls its weight and if cadre get grass root work done properly, next state elections could throw some interesting results.

It was USA Ambassador Richard Verma. USA funds a lots of NGO's and many are registered with them. Somehow these NGO's do not protest in developed countries and I wonder how.

USA had mastered the use of NGO's to direct their political agenda. Money, Money and Money.

I can also tell about several phony NGOs (i've seen them in my home city of Agra) having really Bombastic names registered simply to extract benefits that NGOs get from government like relaxation on building and property taxes etc. Although illegal to do that, these chaps look still innocent when you compare them with foreign funded NGOs that are actually a tool to further the agenda of their paying masters.
I have a college mate (presently working in a PSU, posted in Orrisa) and he once told me that there was a major tribal agitation against a coal mine project in the state. Now these days all companies are required to spend money for rehabilitation and welfare of people affected by the project and when the team went for the same, they realized the tribals really didn't know much on how the mine would affect them. They were instigated by an NGO on flimsy grounds and in the end were only a pawn in game of extracting advantage (money and other means) from the multi crore mine project.
Also we saw what happened in Koodankulam NPP, unnecessary delay in commissioning of project. Unit 1 of KKNPP is producing 1000 MWe these days smoothly, much to the relief of TN and other states with Southern grid.
Government has realized the same that some NGOs do have an ulterior motives and sometimes are threat to security as well. Its time that these are controlled and kept under watch, so that the ones who are doing selfless service donot earn s bad name.

Rahul Baba raised the issue of Potato farmers in Lok Sabha today. He was wondering how come Rs 2/kg potato is sold as Rs 10 potato chips.
