Foreign diplomats to tour India's COVID-19 vaccine facilities

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - More than 60 heads of foreign missions will visit manufacturing facilities in southern India on Wednesday, a government source said, as one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical centres steps up production of COVID-19 vaccines.

India, with the world’s second-highest tally of 9.7 million cases of the novel coronavirus, is reviewing applications from Pfizer Inc, AstraZeneca and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech for emergency use.

Diplomats will visit Biotech’s facilities in Hyderabad, where the firm is developing a shot called Covaxin, in collaboration with the government-run Indian Council of Medical Research, the source briefed on the plans said.

“There is a lot of interest in India’s vaccine development efforts,” the source said on Tuesday, declining to be identified because of government rules.

The visit would also include Biological E. Ltd’s facility, where the firm is developing a vaccine in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and U.S.-based Dynavax Technologies Corp, the source said.

India may approve some coronavirus vaccines over the next few weeks and an estimated 300 million people would be inoculated in the first tranche, federal health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said on Tuesday.

Hydrabad is a major hub for pharmaceuticals in India, the world’s largest generic drug manufacturer.

I heard there's a strange new disease popping up in India??

Has someone used Anthrax? Or side effects from vedic vaccine?

. .
nobody in their right mind should take the corona shot.

. . .
why ?
thanks for playing guinea pig, I guess.. not a smart thing to do.
Got it after emergency approval.. and now the vaccine is approved by the regulator here in UAE.
thanks for playing guinea pig
You don't take medicine? Every medicine in the market gets approval after being tested on "guinea pigs". If everyone starts thinking like you, there will be no medicine to treat people in need.

Ah, so did you contract it and got a bad case of the rona ?

This vaccine business is shady as hell, spl one developed in record time like this, a process like a new shot usually takes years.

How many shots did you take, some are saying it needs to be administered twice.

The chinese vaccine has been developed using old approach of inactivated virus strains. Various vaccines are developed using this approach, such as polio, flu, hepatitis etc.

It's like getting dead virus which is unable to multiply but is still identified by the immune system to develop antibodies. Kind of natural immunity although at a lower level.

Yes, it requires two shots.. the second one is important for longer term immunity. It's like if someone gets the virus first time, he will not be immune for a longer term. However, if he gets infected the second time, his immunity will last longer. That's why some vaccines administered to children have multiple shots.

Since there are too many vaccines in the market that use the same approach, I had no concern about the side effects.. My concerns revolved around efficacy.. like what if the body doesn't produce the required immunity.. In phase three trials, this was being tested and the results were encouraging.

UAE regulator today has officially approved the vaccine after reviewing the phase 3 trials data. It shows 86% efficacy... and 100% antibody production.. which means that all the people developed the antibodies, but still 14% people contracted covid.. however, since there were antibodies, their cases were asymptomic/ mild and they got rid of the infection faster.

Now about Pfizer (and other) vaccines.. they are using an entirely new approach.. has never been used in the development of any other vaccine. It's using mRNA to send instuctions to cells to develop immunity. I will hesitate if given an option to participate in trials.
