Major Modernisation at Skardu Airbase

The FOB Skardu is 7500ft above the sea level, with the nearest Indian airbase Leh 200 Km away housing a detachment of the MIG-29s from IAF squadron no 28. In the past few months a major base overhaul has been going on in Skardu, including construction of a new parallel runway and a built up of enhanced fuel storage capacity along with new ammunition stores.

With recent Indian claims on GB, there was a need for a major upgradation at Skardu, to fill the aerial defence gaps in our Northern areas . With this modernisation the base will provide Pakistan strategic capability extension in the region, defence over the CPEC projects and counter any enemy misadventures.

Is that all strong enough to take hits of enemy PGMs?? What about ground based air defense of base?

I hope you are not sharing anything confidential here. On topic it was much needed. The threat of Indian misadventure is very real because of the consistent internal failures of Indian government as well as failure in Afghan theatre. They know that Pakistan's economy isnt doing well and now would be the time to initiate war otherwise we will lose the initiative if Pakistans economy starts gaining momentum. They are aware that their paid stooges who had personal interests with Indian tycoons like Jindal are no longer in power. Hence after failing on all accounts, war is their last hedge. In new warfare top attack Super sonic CM and land hugging subsonic CM can take out targets in that type of terrain.

What do you think? What is the capacity of fuel storage? is there any underground storage, shelters? how many planes can take off? What if one runway is hit and damaged, where is the alternative? weapons storage etc?

Have seen Mirages,F16s,F7s and Thunders exercising there a lot. Hopefully it will become a major base.
