Major boost to Defence Manufacturing in India as GE brings advanced 3-D printing tech to India

you can now even make barrels using 3-D printers

in my lifetime, i'll hopefully learn how to design a few sub machine guns.....it's already being done. Until recently - the only snag was the barrel, which couldnt be printed due to the fact that they get too hot

3d printer is a rapid prototyping tool...you think of a design and want to see it physically just print it out. Its not just about printing plastics anymore. You can print in metal ceramic and even organic matter. Its being deployed already to print skin, ears, nose etc. It has endless possibilities limited only by our imagination.

I use a 3d printer at work for rapid prototyping. I just don't see it's relevance for mass production.

Rifle barrels?

Linky?

I agree with you on the mass production part. But it can be used in areas where precision matters which can't be achieved otherwise.

what the difference between CNC machine & 3D Printer machine?

Fair point, but material properties also take a hit.

The only time I've ever used a 3d Printer for non-prototyping purposes is to replace an conditioning vent in my car that broke.
