Mahinda Rajapaksa admits defeat - SLToday
Sri Lanka’s ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa has conceded defeat, the AFP news agency reported.
“My dream of becoming prime minister has faded away,” Rajapakse told AFP. “I am conceding. We have lost a good fight.”
Sri Lanka’s ruling United National Party of Ranil Wickremesinghe is leading in several districts with an edge over Rajapaksa’s United People’s Freedom Alliance of ex-President.
The UNP is leading in 11 districts including Colombo, Gampaha, Matale, Polonnarauwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Kegalle, EconomyNext’s political correspondent said.
The UPFA leading in eight districts including Hambantota, Galle, Matara, Kurunegala and Ratnapura.
