Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Sadan Dhaka organized a rally on the occasion

The renovated Gandhi Museum was inaugurated at the Gandhi Ashram Trust in Noakhali on the 152nd birth anniversary of India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi Saturday.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Law Minister Anisul Huq and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami inaugurated the museum.

The renovation of the museum housed inside the Gandhi Ashram campus has been supported by India.

The guests visited the Gandhi Memorial Museum and appreciated the unique display of memorabilia and artefacts related to Mahatma Gandhi, reports UNB.
Also, a discussion titled "Ahimsa, Satyagraha and the Mahatma – Revisited" was held at the Ashram to commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence as well as Gandhi’s 152nd birth anniversary.

The Gandhi Ashram and Indian High Commission in Dhaka organized the discussion as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, Doraiswami said Gandhiji's life and his message holds relevance even today.

He recalled the remarks made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during a UN event organized to commemorate 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.

"She said Gandhiji's love for common people and ideals of non-violence contributed to shaping Bangabandhu's vision of struggle against oppression and tyranny perpetrated by the then regime."
The high commissioner also expressed his delight that during Mujib Borsho, the Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Exhibition was on display in Bangladesh.

The high commissioner said the exhibition celebrates in a uniquely thematic way, the life and legacy of the "fathers of each of the two nations," Mahatma Gandhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP Aroma Dutta, Tuomo Poutiainen, interim UN resident coordinator and ILO country director, and Sudipto Mukherjee, UNDP resident representative, were also present.

Justice Soumendra Sarkar, chairman of Gandhi Ashram Trust, chaired the event in which Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, trustee of Gandhi Ashram Trust, was also present.

That PAL leader Mujib lift a chair and hit the then East Pakistan Assembly Speaker Shahid Ali. He died on the day of his daughter's marriage ceremony.

Like father like daughter. Hasina Bibi is more heinous than Mujib. Hundreds of people have been killed by her order in BD.

Father and after him his beloved daughter are showing too much fake love towards Gandhi philosophy.

Why some Indians are destroying Gandhi statues? It is because they think his policy of appeasing Muslims divided India into two states in 1947.

But do BD people have any reasons to build his statue when BD people fought to get a separate country.

Gandhi had an extraordinary capability to fool others, and was quite successful in it, during his whole political career.
Yes, Gandhi was a fool himself and fooled others into accepting the division of Hindustan into two countries in three lands.

Don't agree. Division of "British India" was necessary, legitimate as well as prudent.
The legitimacy is based on what? It needed legality which was based on the joint decision by the govt of British India in Delhi, Imperial London as well as the Indian Congress Party.

All-India Muslim League had to accept the joint verdict.

All-India Muslim League alone could not legalize the division of Hindustan. Prudent it may have been for the Muslims League and Muslim population but the Indian Hindus still do not think it that way.

They feel they were betrayed by the division of Hindustan for which they tend to blame Gandhi, rightfully or wrongly.

Congress, which was deemed to be the representative body of the Hindus, based upon the results of 1945-46 Elections, agreed to the division, and this decision was supported by all the stalwarts of Congress, including Gandhi, Nehru, Patel etc. That is how, politics works. As for certain Hindus, feeling betrayed, on this account, that is their internal matter. 100% consensus is not possible in politics.

Gandhi's Killer Nathuram Godse (who belonged to the RSS) is lionized as a hero by the RSS and Shivsena. RSS members believe Gandhi betrayed India and was too soft with Muslims. The other big collaborator In the Gandhi assassination and a Muslim hater, Savarkar, is to this day, lionized by the RSS and BJP.

Here is Modi offering tributes to Savarkar.

Those celebrating Gandhi are sick in the head. He was a pedophile, dude slept naked with his niece and screwed them, a disgusting shriveled man he was. And about being peaceful not a chance in South Africa dude was straight up racist.

In 1904, he wrote to a health officer in Johannesburg that the council "must withdraw Kaffirs" from an unsanitary slum called the "Coolie Location" where a large number of Africans lived alongside Indians. "About the mixing of the Kaffirs with the Indians, I must confess I feel most strongly."
The same year he wrote that unlike the African, the Indian had no "war-dances, nor does he drink Kaffir beer". When Durban was hit by a plague in 1905, Gandhi wrote that the problem would persist as long as Indians and Africans were being "herded together indiscriminately at the hospital".
This, in itself, say historians, is not entirely new and revelatory. Also, some South Africans have always accused the man who led India to independence of working with the British colonial government to promote racial segregation.

More of Gandhi thoughts: Ramachandra Guha is wrong. Gandhi went from a racist young man to a racist middle-aged man (theprint.in)

Bangladesh was India's East Bengal when Mahatma Gandhi visited Noakhali district of British India's Bengal province. He went there when Muslims of Eastern Bengal killed atleast 5000 Hindus in violence and looted Hindu properties and also raped many Hindu women. It was a reaction of Kolkata riots where atleast 4000 Muslims were killed and many Muslim women were raped by Hindus in riots when Jinnah declared Direct Action Day in 1946.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah announced Direct Action Day in 16 August 1946 and warned Mahatma Gandhi's Congress, "We do not want war. If you want war we accept your offer unhesitatingly. We will either have a divided India or a destroyed India."

The news went viral in Bangladesh (then East Bengal, India) that Hindus killed thousands of Muslims in Kolkata. The reaction was so severe in Noakhali where Muslims killed thousands of Hindus in reaction to Kolkata riots. Many refugees camps were set in Bangladesh's Cumilla, Chandpur district for saving Hindus from the riots.

Gandhi went there from Gujarat and gave sympathy to East Bengali Hindus and urged Muslims and Hindus both to show peace and maintain religious harmony in both West Bengal and Bangladesh ( then East Bengal).

Gandhi is very much revered in Bangladesh, esp. in Noakhali.
