Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Sadan Dhaka organized a rally on the occasion
The renovated Gandhi Museum was inaugurated at the Gandhi Ashram Trust in Noakhali on the 152nd birth anniversary of India's Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi Saturday.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Law Minister Anisul Huq and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami inaugurated the museum.
The renovation of the museum housed inside the Gandhi Ashram campus has been supported by India.
The guests visited the Gandhi Memorial Museum and appreciated the unique display of memorabilia and artefacts related to Mahatma Gandhi, reports UNB.
Also, a discussion titled "Ahimsa, Satyagraha and the Mahatma – Revisited" was held at the Ashram to commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence as well as Gandhi’s 152nd birth anniversary.
The Gandhi Ashram and Indian High Commission in Dhaka organized the discussion as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, Doraiswami said Gandhiji's life and his message holds relevance even today.
He recalled the remarks made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during a UN event organized to commemorate 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.
"She said Gandhiji's love for common people and ideals of non-violence contributed to shaping Bangabandhu's vision of struggle against oppression and tyranny perpetrated by the then regime."
The high commissioner also expressed his delight that during Mujib Borsho, the Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Exhibition was on display in Bangladesh.
The high commissioner said the exhibition celebrates in a uniquely thematic way, the life and legacy of the "fathers of each of the two nations," Mahatma Gandhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, MP Aroma Dutta, Tuomo Poutiainen, interim UN resident coordinator and ILO country director, and Sudipto Mukherjee, UNDP resident representative, were also present.
Justice Soumendra Sarkar, chairman of Gandhi Ashram Trust, chaired the event in which Advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj, trustee of Gandhi Ashram Trust, was also present.
Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Sadan organizes rally
On the occasion of the 152nd birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Sadan Dhaka organized a peace rally at the central Shaheed Minar.
The event was presided over by Chief Coordinator of Green Voice Alamgir Kabir and conducted by Coordinator of Mahatma Gandhi Smarak Sadan Humayun Kabir Sumon, read a press release.
World Non-Violence Day is observed on October 2 every year to make the world aware of the need to stop violence, hatred, violence, fighting, intolerance and bloodshed.
The non-violent movement of Mahatma Gandhi, the undisputed leader of the independence movement of the subcontinent, played an important role in stopping intolerance, tension and violence in the world.
