Charges framed against Madhuri Gupta in espionage case - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today framed charges against former Indian diplomat Madhuri Gupta for allegedly passing on sensitive information to Pakistan's ISI.

Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain charged Gupta under Section 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act for spying and also section 120B of the Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy.

The court fixed March 22 for starting the trial. Gupta, 53, posted as Second Secretary (Press and Information) at Indian High Commission in Islamabad, was arrested on April 22, 2010 by the Special Cell of Delhi Police for passing on sensitive information pertaining to defence to Pakistan's ISI.

She has been charged with breach of trust, criminal conspiracy and various other provisions of the Official Secrets Act.

It was alleged that Gupta revealed certain classified information to Pakistani officials and was in touch with two ISI officials, Mubshar Raza Rana and Jamshed.

According to the charge sheet filed in July 2010, Gupta was involved in a relationship with Jamshed whom she planned to marry. She used to communicate with Jamshed who had a code name 'Jim'.

The diplomat was using a computer installed at her residence in Islamabad and a Blackberry phone to be in touch with the two Pakistani spies, it said.

She had also visited Jammu and Kashmir in March 2010 on the instructions of Rana to allegedly procure the Annual Plan Report of the state. Rana also wanted information on the proposed 310 MW hydro-electric power project to be set up in the state by 2020, it said.

Arent this available freely on Internet are these type of Info classified? I doubt though.

This is embarrassing for the Indian nation.

That we caught a spy? Why is that embarassing? In case you didn't know, there are countless spies on both sides working secretly. Both for India and pak. If we catch one who is working against us, that is a triumph, not an embarassment.

Miss Gupta is innocent, a courageous woman like countless others.

And you came to this conclusion how? By carefully sifting through all the charges, and analysing all the evidence, and listening to all the testimonials on both sides etc? Or just by sitting at home in front of a computer?

And by the way your statement contradicts itself. Why would you call her courageous if she wasn't leaking secrets? That itself implies she is guilty as far as India is concerned. If she is innocent of the said charges, what makes her so courageous? Think before you post.

embarrassment was when Hamid gul said we have RAW spies in Mosques working as Imams (lol) and the biggest one is when host of the interview asked him "what happened after you captured those spies why you dint presented this case to court" that lame guy come up this answer: "after we captured them we dont know what happened to them, we just handed it over" now that is what known as embarrassment to a nation to a secret service.:police:

It is not unusual for Intel agencies to engage a potential recruit in innocent/easy tasks initially, and gradually rope her/him in. Wonder how romantic could a 53 yr old S Asian be? Although heart has its reasons reasons too.
