What's new

Made in KSA

Saudi Arabia surprised us again by manufacturing Typhoon parts locally, after the engines ToT..
After the decision of the King of Saudi Arabia, we were surprised by the first purely advanced Saudi air defense system..

How did Saudi Arabia acquire the nuclear bomb..

It would be great if the videos/material/news of such important news was posted in English as well for outside observers. A lot of the impressive growth in the Saudi Arabian military sector is not substantially covered in English-speaking media. At all. It should change.

I know that this is completely off-topic but take a look at the Arabic Wikipedia article about Saudi Arabian cuisine

and compare it to the laughable English variant devoid of any real details.

The Arab Defense forum (in Arabic) should expand to an English version as well or at least they should have an English Twitter account where the main developments are posted.

My two quick cents.

The US says selling the F-35 to KSA is possible.. the only condition is not to leak the tech to China..

My prediction, KSA "recognizes" Israel (doing the same thing as Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, UAE, Bahrain etc. did of Arab states and plenty of non-Arab Muslim states) and get all the benefits that this entails. KSA under MbS is focusing 100% on KSA's interests before anything else and that is a wise policy.

It is evident that KSA and Israel already have clandestine relations in terms of security and common enemies.

If such a thing occurs, I am more interested in what Israel can offer to KSA in terms of technology and military tech.

As we all know, Israel's "crown jewel" in their normalization campaign is KSA. Netanyahu has said this publicly numerous times. His biggest (and Israel's biggest) triumph would be KSA recognition due to KSA being the most important, wealthy and influential Muslim nation on earth.

It would also give access for Israeli Muslims to travel to Makkah and Madinah in large numbers. More $.

Also after KSA recognizes Israel, almost every Muslim nation will follow suit, Pakistan included. I am 100% sure about this.

But F-35 alone cannot cut it IMO. KSA needs a better deal than that. If the US wants to force KSA away from China, this deal might as well not be proposed as KSA is not leaving China given that almost every strategic KSA project is done with China. There is no more important partner for KSA than China.

As a side note, KSA should allocate billions of dollars into nuclear thermal rocket engine technology given recent developments. The future of propulsion technology.

First KSA never asked for the F-35 but did for the F-22..Second.. KSA's position towards normalization is very clear..a.k.a a two states solution..This goes with reputation and principles..since it is KSA who has proposed that in 2000 or so..I believe that even if the US proposes the F-22 without the two-states solution..KSA will still refuse..actually it has refused this offer if it is linked to any kind of normalization with Usrael.. that is why the US is saying now.. the only condition is to protect the tech from China..

Usrael has nothing much to offer that KSA can't get from China, France, the US and in fact the US.. so that card does not count in this game..

In principle I fully agree that KSA should not recognize Israel before a two-state solution (an independent Palestine) emerges. This is the most just and sensible position to have.

My problem with this position, however, is that most of the Arab and Muslim world (nowadays) have recognized Israel (recognizing Israel does not negate the recognition of an independent Palestinian state) and gained certain benefits (political, economic, military etc.) from doing so.

KSA, being the biggest prize for Israel in terms of normalization, would quite possibly gain the biggest gains from such a recognization.

Why continue to shot yourself in the foot while close allies like UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco etc. reap the benefits of doing so?

The main geopolitical enemy of KSA, in fact I would argue the only real one, isMullah-ruled Iran.
I don't see Israeli interference in internal Arab affairs, active support for anti-KSA terrorist groups and political entities and persons in the region, failed attempts at formenting unrest within KSA (10 + years ago in the Eastern Province), harmful meddling in KSA's backyard (Yemen) etc.

It is evident that most of the Saudi Arabian population feel a great affinity to their Palestinian neighbors whom they share language, ethnic group, religion, origin/genetics, culture, deep-rooted history etc. with but states are supposed to act calculated and rationally and with the aim of doing what is in the best interests of state x or y. There is no room for emotion and sentiment.

I simply refuse to belief that KSA and Israel have not held confidential talks or that they don't have ties in regards to combating common enemies in the region. Even the Palestinians (West Bank and Hamas) have ties to Israel let alone the Mullah's in Iran (Iran-Contra affair).

In principle, you are right, that everyone else not named Israel could offer what KSA wants/needs, but before a KSA-Israel normalization has not occurred, we don't know what Israel could offer to KSA. In fact Israel might only offer what country x or y could/can offer, but maybe in much more favorable terms.

Also don't forget that there is geography at play here or the fact that Israel in many ways is an Arab state already (huge Arab minority plus over half of all Israeli Jews are Arab Jews, including Israeli Jews from modern-day Southern KSA). So in many ways, ethnically/racially speaking, Israel is more Arab than anything else.

Speaking about geography:
