Oh!

I just tripped into a private scoop of my own!

I hope 'they' don't kill me for this; looks like Mahindra is pel-mmm-pel 'ing it's Korean Kia purchase on the Indian market. The 500 and now the new mini Xylo are ditinctly Korean knock-offs, with cosmetic fender changes.

Of course, said elements are outsourced to 3'rd party suppliers who can be pushed around while the rest of the vehicle is a complete 'cut-&-paste' job; right down to the factory itself. Regular Indo-China practice is to dis-assemble the entire shop floor and factory, bag-&-tag, throw it in containers and re-assemble back in the India da Pindia.

Nice befoolery, at cost to gullible Indian public. Welcome to business 101, Indi-Pindi ishtyle :) .
 
I think the Mini Xylo looks hideous :confused:

Reminds me of the older Daihatsu Terios, but uglier.

Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL), the country's ninth largest car maker by sales, in collaboration with Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. (FGA) of Italy, has initiated its new technical aptitude and proficiency development programme, 'Diksha', to open advanced educational conduits and technical guidance for interested and worthy youngsters.

Expressing his views, Rajeev Kapoor, CEO, Fiat India Automobiles Limited, said, “We strongly feel that we need to keep pace with the changing dynamics in the world of manufacturing and it also believed that there is a need for up-gradation at our vocational centres so that we can generate skilled talent tailor-made to deliver in this highly competitive sector. With this initiative we hope to deliver highly skilled and trained manpower that will cater to the automobile industry and also ensure them of a source of employment and self sustainability.”

Reportedly, Fiat India has acquired help from Donbosco Vyawasaik Prashikshan Kendra, Pune for the training programme. The company provided intellectual insight and financial assistance to the aforementioned institution for setting up the training and guidance centre under the name 'FIAT & Don Bosco Experiential Skill Training Centre'. The training programme will take place from the Don Bosco Professional Training Centre (DBPTC) in Chinchwad, near Pune.

The Don Bosco's responsibilities include ensuring proper accreditation of all training courses by the Indian Government and the enrolment process of worthy candidates. Don Bosco also carries the task of training, supervision and teaching of the course module.

In the Diksha initiative, Fiat India will be charged with a liability of improving the overall skill and knowledge capabilities of trainers, teachers and also ensuring practical training and internship opportunities for both – the students and trainers. The company will also provide training equipments, materials and aids, comprising information regarding its products and components.

Within duration of four months, Diksha programme's course module comprises basic information regarding Fiat's contemporary four-wheel technology and technical insights.

Reportedly, three groups of 25 students will be enrolled for the four-month long programme with a two-year long programme called 'Centre of Excellence, which are to be arranged simultaneously. Both the programs will be certified by the National Council for Vocational Training – New Delhi along with a Joint Certification from FIAT and Don Bosco. The programme and course module is said to be of the same quality, compared with the State driven ITI (Industry Training Institute) courses.

Tata Motors recently showcased its new AirPod – a car that runs on compressed air using technology developed by Luxembourg’s MDI. The AirPod, currently in the prototype stage, is set to become commercially available in a few years. The AirPod runs on a combination compressed air and battery-powered electric motor. What is truly revolutionary is that the ease of converting air into an energy source using simple compressors means charging stations can be placed anywhere, and they require no provisioning — no trucks delivering gas, ethanol, or hydrogen — and they produce no emissions, just discharge of the air. Like conventional electric vehicles, it also generates and stores some energy while braking. The Verge, reporting on the car, opines that while concept still seems a bit shaky, it could offer cheaper and more environmentally friendly recharging without waiting for something like IBM’s lithium-air battery.

Designer Stowe Boyd writes in a glowing review of the AirPod,

This is breakthrough design: it undercuts most of the negatives of the system it is designed to replace. And unlike other alternatives to traditional cars, it does not require an entire supply chain to exist before becoming practical in a single location. A city like New York could roll out a citywide fleet of AirPods Just like it is rolling out a bike sharing program (although the city’s bike share program has been delayed). It doesn’t need to build nuclear reactors, or deal with some hard-to-transport alternative fuel. In fact, New York City could simply repurpose existing gas stations or parking lots with compressors, and card readers.

The AirPod can run 125mi (200k) at a top speed between 28 to 43mph (45 to 70kph). The car is intended for a single rider, and has a small cargo area in the back. While the technology may be a breakthrough in clean and environmentally friendly engines, the single-user design of the car may make it less than practical for a lot of users, especially in the Indian market and other such overly congested areas of the world.

Moreover, as Green Car Reports points out, the car may not be the answer to all our problems, since

Compressed air can be made to work as a method of propulsion, but it requires too many compromises–for now, at least–in order to make a road vehicle that runs on air…Light weight is an absolute requirement, and that doesn’t just mean “lighter than most cars”, but lightness at the expense of most other things. The Airpod is a unique piece of product design but even those used to Smart ForTwos and Renault Twizys might shy away from something that looks so vulnerable.

Speed isn’t really an option either, with a top speed of between 28-43 mph. And although the car is built on the premise of using compressed air to run, one of the running options suggested is to use an electric motor to compress air while you’re driving along. Get to that stage, and you might wonder if it makes more sense to use that motor to power the vehicle in the first place…

Tata still has no solid production plans yet, nor do any of the other companies working on air cars. There are clearly problems that need addressing, but will there ever be an air car that’s a practical enough proposition to tempt people away from electric cars of the future?

So will the AirPod just end up being another alternate-fuel joke? Or can it actually be developed into a practical vehicle that has the potential to replace conventional and other alt energy and electric vehicles in the market? I’d argue that it’s current single-person design could spell its failure and that Tata needs to work on different kinds of models for an air-powered car. While the tiny car may work for a minimal percentage of automobile consumers both in India and other parts of the world, the greater need for the masses is still better public transport. If the air-compression technology could somehow power buses and metros, that may indeed be the future of transportation.

I must say India produces some really good cars, this is what Pakistan should try to do instead of having Japanese giants sell junk at unreasonable prices, but at the same time its very hard to set up infrastructure to indigenously produce cars but Pakistan must start somewhere .

Bharat Benz will start selling its trucks from september...the trucks will have lower cost Mercedez Benz engine.

Not till the focus shifts from India to Economy, the entire political system is way too corrupted , No big shots have ever been convicted and power situation is abysmal. the patriotism of the common ppl are just votebanks for the videsi living leaders . Maybe military rule
