LAHORE- Chocolates….Isn’t the word itself enough to make your mouth water? Well, one can’t really be blamed; the world of chocolates is full of some yummy treats and one can’t help being addicted to them.

If you’re a chocolate lover and particularly crazy for some delicious M&M’s, then here is a piece of sad news for you all. M&M’s are not HALAL! The brand itself shared on Twitter that M&M’s are not suitable for a halal diet!

This information concerns us muslims, and this info made it clear that we muslims can't consume M&M anymore. No one is asking to restrict its sale etc, So what is your point, who is talking about caliphate here.

Vanilla flavour is extracted using vodka.

Vanilla extract is using alcohol while vanilla flavour isnt

Vanilla flavor is made with required amount of vanilla bean extractives, but without alcohol. Propylene glycol is the most common substitute. The Standard of Identity states that this product cannot be labeled extract due to the lack of alcohol.

Let's not go around giving fatwas just yet.

The rule of fiqh is:

Anything that intoxicates in large quantities is not allowed even in small quantities.

So if eating vanilla gets you intoxicated, then sure.

With regards to insects - there is a grey area. Have you seen any reputable fatwa by a senior committee of scholars about insect based ingredients?

At the very least Islamic nations should grow some spine and start investing in Halal products if they really care about their populations.
