mhh, It was fun when you had to travel through soviet bloc and you could travel through afghani land too. Iran had shah. I didn't travel through it but I know those who did.

Yugoslavia and Romania weren't in the Soviet bloc tho they opposed the Soviet style Communism and Yugoslavia was pretty easy to enter with any western passport my uncle did it in the 70s and 80s but you could count Bulgaria as part of the Soviet bloc oh my uncle has so many stories about Communist Bulgaria and bribes and stuff I prolly wont write but he said back then roads in Eastern Turkey were crap and Iran just had the revolution and Iraq war so that kinda made the trip dangerous alhumdullah they reached Karachi safe, another one did it in the 60s but was Pakistan to West Germany. It's getting popular again thankfully I hope to do it in near future but not the usual Balkan-Turkey-Iran route but via Russia-Georgia-Azerbaijan-Iran, or Russia-Kazakhstan-China,China is hard tho besides the visa you gotta have a seperate Chinese temporary license and plate which lasts like 30 days and need to have guide and exact route

I would love to do the Mongol Rally but I like the idea of a Solo Road trip very much and meticulous at planning it for years

But maybe this year me and some relatives in the UK could carry out this plan.I want to do that then do the Mongol Rally

My dad did this road trip in the late 70s! From deserts to snow-capped peaks and right- and left-hand drive countries, was quite a story. And yes, Iran and Afghanistan were part of the itinerary.
