CHANDIGARH: Dollar dreams of few youths from Haryana ended up with the AK-47 guns in their hands to fight Taliban in Kabul to protect oil wells owned by US companies while they were employed for civilian duties. The matter came to light when four youths of Yamunanagar district who were allegedly sent to Afghanistan by two local agents filed a complaint against them at Chhappar police station.

A complaint has been lodged against two agents Pawan Kumar alias Pannu and Laddi of Yamunanagar. Meanwhile, the four victims have launched a campaign against such unscrupulous agents in Haryana who dupe gullible youth on the pretext of providing them employment abroad.

Police have have asked Pawan and Laddi to join the investigations. "We have asked the complainants to submit relevant documents like their air tickets and offer letters before proceeding further," officials of Yamuanangar police said.

Haryana ADGP (law and order) K K Sharma said the matter would be probed thoroughly to find if such rackets were being run at other places in the state. He further said the matter would be handed over to the crime branch to probe all such complaints.

Meanwhile, in complaint to police, Krishan Kumar, Suresh Kumar and his brother Vinod Kumar and Dinesh Kumar alleged Pawan and Laddi had taken Rs 2.50 lakh each for getting them employed as civil supervisors or shift in-charge in the US oil company having operations in Kabul.

"All this happened in June 2013. Instead of providing us the appointment letter, one of the travel agents contacts in Afghanistan took us to Kabul where documents were prepared to show us as ex-defence personnel of India. When we objected to it, we were threatened of dire consequences and were forced to undergo training of handling AK-47 rifles and pistols. We were also told to Afghans," said Krishan, a resident of Yamunangar.

He claimed that they were left with no option other than obeying the orders of their employer as they were sent illegally to Afghanistan. "Our passports were taken away. After winning their confidence we got our passports and managed to leave Afghanistan," he added further.

Speaking of their hardships, Vinod said, "What to talk of earning dollars, our condition was nothing less than that of beggars . However, we will not give up and take these agents to task."
