loss making ONGC, Air India, BSNL may shut down

Hal and DRDO need Russian training or minority ownership stake by Russian govt/UAC . That should improve competitiveness of Hal and DRDO. Plus it will enable Tejas to be sold to African countries as a ground attack light bomber.
Hmm,not surprised. BSNL has been turned into a joke cos of it poor service. ONGC 5% stake sell would be max.but how did u get this inside news?

The most shocking inside tidbit - rafale and FGFA productions to go to privates. HAL is looking at closure in another 4 years. HMT already shut down.

I hope they sell 49% of its stake and not completely. There were reports about its(BSNL) merger with MTNL aswell. Lets see.

India post is requesting them to give status of banking so that they can convert their numerous post offices into bank branches. Center is dragging it's feet on that proposal.

How is a profit making, a company saddled with tonnes of order going to close? And why?

The issue with HAL is not profit - selling to own defense services is not profit making. The issue is inefficiency.

They are cutting down on orders
What orders do they have after the Sukhoi line gets exhausted?

Several projects underway - MTA, helis (quite succesfull on them), Saras, IRJ, most of all LCA. And many more. How would they end the projects midway? May be they would sell the shares, but closer, no.

Are you serious? ,though privatising HAL ''completely'' is still a bit hard to digest, selling a majority stake could be an option as its inefficiency is well known to everyone.and don't know if it's infra is mordenised enough for large scale LCA & FGFA production simultaneously.

Have heard about such a proposal before..... In rural areas post offices are being used for money transaction as well. You pension for example.any idea Why's the govt having a cold feet with a banking type proposal?

Saras is NAL project, LCA - What are the confirmed orders? - 40 no. 197 helis(400 in total) going to private firms. MTA - hasn't even been signed yet - it's just a proposal.

Helicopter division might exist for LCH LAH etc.

Saras is a joint project. And they have set up facilities for LCA. It would be inefficient and costly to transfer them to private firms. Harder to transfer the know how. I may be mistaken about MTA. But there are more projects going on. Not just production, but R&D. Helis alone might sustain HAL.

I think they would just start selling the share, that too in a small percentage.

They are gearing up for closure - the present CMD of HAL (the previous one is in Manipal hospital from the last 2 months for heart disorder) is tasked to wind up in the next 4 years - no kidding.

India post - again too heavy and inexperienced in banking operations.

What facilities for LCA? They have an established line for su 30 jaguar and mirages. A helicopter division - not aware of Pune operations.

You make it sound like all of it going behind the scene.I am still in a dilema weather it would be fair enough to privatise it completely. And on top of that just like most PSU's it has huge pact of land under its belt aswell. There hasn't been any official confirmation on this though. Don't ya think you are leaking some info's,if any. Kiddo  :D

Anyone remember the old HAL airport in Bangalore? @solar65 @jbtj90

It's restarting passenger operations soon for domestic flights of 220 seating or less.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
Production Line:

HAL has been working towards building up infrastructure for production. The LCA production group engaged in the production of Limited Series Production (LSP) aircraft during the last five years functioned as an extended arm of the design and development team with large scale modifications introduced into these LSP aircraft in terms of hardware, system improvements and software in a progressive manner as per concurrent development and production concept.

With most of the aircraft system performance reaching desired levels, HAL production group would concentrate on stabilizing the production line. All hardware improvements and software modifications as a result of trials on LSP series aircraft are now being incorporated into series production aircraft.

The production line at HAL has been moved to new premises with a built up area of around 28,000 Sq m of Hangars, Engineering and Administrative blocks. Upgrade and augmentation of production tooling is underway to enhance the rate of production and to expedite delivery of aircraft for two IAF squadrons in the next four to five years
