I think it depends if they have to make some structural changes to the aircraft because firing an arty piece from the side might make the aircraft unstable because of the recoil.

C-130s can be modified for such purposes quite easily. The airframe is robust enough such that an effective platform can be created to meet specific needs with only a little bit of work. However, the key improvements, as I have mentioned before, are the intelligence gathering sensors and the computerized targeting system, that greatly enhance the lethality.

The C-130 is one of those airframes/aircrafts whose design just happened to be over-engineered in just the right amount that give it the flexibility we need today and that flexibility continues to give us options in the future. There are very few aircrafts in aviation that achieved an iconic status like the C-130 and unlike the entertainment industry where the grantors of this label can be blatantly biased and whose temperaments are emotionally fickle , this status has to be earned the hard way in aviation through meeting demands set by ordinary people in extraordinary situations often not of their own creations but that they must resolve to accomplish the mission lest people die. That 'just the right amount' quantity is elusive in engineering and no one really know how to recognize it. Certainly Lockheed did not declare on the blueprints way back then that the C-130 will be a 'great' aircraft. Everyone hope their creations will be 'great' but in aviation, the tests to achieve that 'great' status takes decades and literally lives depends on every single test before people will concede to that 'great' label.

I know pilots have their own opinions but in my opinion, the C-130 is one of those rare products of human creations whose greatest (but unsung) heroes are the engineers instead of the people who uses it to accomplish tasks. It is a 'Goldilocks' product. I was never on the C-130 but have been its passenger many times and have a great deal of affection for it. Almost as much for my F-16.

The use of the camel pictographs pays homage and respect to the grand old Arab tradition of regarding them as "Ships of the Desert".

It is a derogatory 'camel jockey' reference - the images are meant to represent 'successful engagements' with the 'enemy', not 'homage' to any animal.. Try and not let your bias prevent you from criticizing racist symbolism and behavior on the part of Americans when it occurs.

you simply cannot get away with your underlined race issues. Cheng - as an opinionator one expects better from you. It is not for you to show this tone as not only does it devalue the site but then you antagonize the "cheng hatred" tag. You bring it apon yourself.
