Lockheed Unveils Two Future C-130 Variants

It can be classified as a crime against humanity!!! I am not joking -- that kind of firepower raining on top of your head in the middle of the night is deadly to say the least and it follows you if you are lucky to survive the initial onslought and you dare to make a dart for the nearest cave.

:agree::agree:

BTW Russians also have developed some pretty scary stuff...

Had chance to witness live firing of TOS...Was scared to core..

I am sure they will sell it to their current hot romance. On a serious note -- I am not sure. Wiki has no foreign operators listed on the page.

What we should be looking at IF..(and that is a BIG IF).. things get better between the frenimies is the XJ..
We dont need all the thingamajics in there. But can use it as a viable replacement for our older airframes.

Pakistan should have gon for couple of Spectre Gunship to fight its side of WoT. I have seen one in an actual firing display by night. It is a shocking sight, specially in the night when couple of side firing 20mm Gatling guns start spewing flames from 10,000 feet. The show stopper is when the 105mm fires - it is an awsome sight and the sound!

^^^ Why not ? I dont think it has any classified technology.

It is just a big plane with big guns with some aiming sights that are probably available in gunship helicopters and naval guns

There is much more to an AC-130 than just the airframe and the guns.

Well I know it is a total killing machine. But my point is what classified technology does it have ? What will stop the US from selling it to anyone who is in its good books and willing to pay its price ?

Suffice to say that modern warfare is much more about software, and computer networks. An AC-130 has sophisticated information gathering and analyzing technology that helps it acquire and only then destroy the targets.

The price to acquire such weaponry is much more than just the proverbial barrels full of dollars.

I hope the camels painted on the side are not meant to be derogatory references to the 'camel jockey kills' the aircraft/crew has managed ...

No Sir, they do not represent what you think they are.

Yes, sensors were the true 'classified' items on the AC-130. The inspirations for the mechanical adaptations for the guns ranged from field mechanics to factory engineers who contributed progressively to the point where the AC-130 is as unique and lethal as it is today, but it was the sensors technology that had to be adapted by the manufacturers of the sensors and the aircraft maker that drove the cost factor. I have been in an AC-130 and it was a loud and 'compacted' experience because space was a highly prized item.
