Lockheed Martin Corp., Eagan, Minn., is being awarded a $43,988,555 modification to a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract (N00019-06-D-0012) for the upgrade of seven P-3C aircraft for the government of Pakistan under the Foreign Military Sales program.

This modification in support of the Pakistan Navy P-3C upgrade program will replace the obsolete and unsustainable avionics systems currently installed with modern equipment that provides increased capabilities, reliability and will be sustainable for future operations.

Work will be performed in Eagan, Minn. (70 percent), and Greenville, S.C. (30 percent), and is expected to be completed in February 2013. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

The Naval Air Warfare Center, Lakehurst, N.J., is the contracting activity.

Should Pakistan invest in Yun-8X (Y-8X) Chinese Maritime Patrol Aircraft? or CN-235MP/MPA from Indonesia?

Invest in “Matador” from Azerbaijan Republic?

Well US idea is to pull a fast one on Pakistan , thats why they passed the kerry luger bill to cut of any upgrades or arms deal when needed with out warning ....

Because they know Bush Gov made some promises , etc and they can't just say no , so first they created this document, which Pakistan is made to accept - with cash , and now they can technically say no to any previous deals if needed etc its a lawyer's dirty trick

Thats exactly what happened with Pakistan's F16 saga in 90's Pakistan ordered the planes and they were told oh we are making these and then they have to give some certificate of approval from their president on Pakistan , and he did not .. and so Presler Notion was passed which banned Pakistan from recieving any planes for 10 years or so ....

This is why , we see us getting deliveries of thing 1 item at time , so when we are not needed US will throw us away like they did before and just move on , with out supplying our items ....

frankly this is a very misleading article - the complete overhaul and upgrade of the 7 P-3Cs is worth nearly US$900 mill - this article only talks of a particular "avionics suite" - in any case the US now realises that its supply chain for military equipment being provided to pakistan needs to be upgraded and fast-tracked and thus the recent offer by the US president to upgrade / enhance the military relationship.

There's also the ATR-72MP

ATR 72 ASW / ATR 72 MP

ATR-72 is decent platform, Pakistan need to diversify it's defense equipment. Pakistan can't depend on USA or China. I think Pakistan should invest in Turkish defense industry, Joint project with Turkey, Italy, Brazil, China and possibly South Korea.

Pakistan can't depend on GCC/ Arab countries. GCC dream is going to end soon. These camel jockey who became rich over night and, from Camel to Bentley, will probably go back to camel unless they stop spending money foolishly. GCC need to build one Army, AirForce and Navy. USA is going to give JSF to Israel and GCC will not be able to match that. They need to invest money with Russia, China or European countries, Germany & French companies to build decent stealth fighter.

Hi,

Pressler motion was already in place and was in place for many years since Reagan---paf foolishly ordered the planes knowing up front that the sanctions were coming. I was here in the u s and some of my friends over here who were more into the issue at that time talked about it.

President Bush didnot have the ability to refuse signing the bill---otherwise he would have been impeached becaus ehe didnot have as much support in the congress as Reagan did.

Reagan squashed that bill manytime before pres Bush.

RR never squashed the bill as u suggest - he just signed a presidential decree (part of the bill) stating that mil-aid was in the best interest of US security and PAK was not building a nuclear device.

senior bush did not sign this decree as the afghan war was at its end and the US did not need pak as a client state anymore.
