This is the Arush X1 a prototype surveillance UAV being developed by the Delhi Tech University with funding and engineering support from Lockheed-Martin. Being developed under the Next Generation Urban Unmanned Air System Development Project, the UAV is aimed at persistent surveillance over an urban setting. Designed and built to meet design specifications that were put down by Lockheed's engineers in 2009, the Arush X1 has been test-flown eight times so far (first in Dec 2011), and the team is understood to be attempting a capability expansion on the system.

"Work on the project formally began in January 2010 and the first prototype flew in December 2011, making it among the fastest design-to-fly projects in aircraft developmental history, especially in India by students," says Gaurav Gupta, team leader on the project.

Congrats Students and faculty of DTU !! and thanks Lockheed Martin...

There should be something that caught Lockheed's eye when submitted the proposal .

GOI please use this to track Maoists !!

Lockheed Martin knows how to identify and encourage talent. Shame on DRDO and ADA for not having sponsored these youth. Shows the 70s sarkari mentality still prevails.

Most of the brilliant students cant afford recommendations to enter our sarkari DRDO.... they may have brilliant Idea, instead they choose a more simpler livelihood---Software Industry.

Ever since we order C-130J , the company is in love with us.

That's why DRDO and other defense PSUs must be restructured, corporatized and made for profit. Not sarkari idiots sleeping and ruining our name on the planet.

thats not true the most intelligent people for jobs in public sector units go for IES (Indian engineering services ). the procedure for entering a government organization like drdo , bhel etc is a competitive exam so no recommendations needed :) software industries is in no comparison to core companies for briliant students .

Congragulation to Students of DTU, DRDO should learn from Lockheed Martin to how to cultivate talent.

What can an organization run by reservation-appointed bribe-taking politicians and bureaucrats do? Only the hard-working scientists and engineers suffer embarrassment due to these incompetents. Bureaucrats must be banned from heading any PSU.

Once fully developed and with all the required systems integrated, i'm sure
Arush X1 would out-perform Pakistan's Jasoos-2 UAV.

It's a pretty proud moment for us that our budding students have built this fine unmanned machine
that is in a definitive manner, the stepping stone for such endeavours by students of India.

India should have more private sector/civilian/student presence in the defence equipment industry,
and for god's sake, give them freedom to do what they can do!

My fellow Indian brothers, its really a proud moment of us, earlier Mahindra had built the NM-5 general
aviation aircraft, and now our DTU students have built Arush X1...brilliant buddies of DTU :agree:

Thanks Lockheed Martin for your support and guidance, we might not buy F35 but you can
be sure there's a lot more potential in India you can tap to strive towards a better world of technology.
