Lockheed proposes $5bn Aegis ships sale to Saudi Arabia

Lockheed Martin Corp has proposed selling to Saudi Arabia eight Littoral Combat Ship hulls outfitted with its Aegis radar in a package that may be valued at $5bn, a company executive said.
“What we are offering is the Aegis SPY 1F system on the Littoral Combat Ship,” Paul Lemmo, vice president of business development at Lockheed’s Mission Systems and Sensors unit, said in an interview today in Arlington, Virginia.
The Aegis SPY-1F is a smaller, lighter version of the air and missile defense radar deployed on US Navy ships.
Saudi Arabia is seeking eight surface combatant ships, such as the Littoral Combat Ship, as the “centerpiece of its plan to recapitalise its eastern fleet” that may also include fast- patrol boats, helicopters and drones, he said.

Not really.. Many countries will lend their Soldiers to fight for Saudis ( you know which country ).. This martial race theory and Iranis being better fighter will not matter much when Saudi F-15s and EFs are facing Iranian Air force..

You forget the pilots on lease..At least one country i know will send its pilots to protect the kingdom..

That gonna be huge boost. they are already quite advanced. LCS with Aegis but I think they should go for larger LCS.

Iran has aproximately 530 aircraft much of which are antiquated. Mostly pre-revolution and aircraft that Saddams pilots flew there. Saudi's have over 1000 aircraft most of which are advanced and in excellent repair.

A war between these two nations are sure to raise the price of fuel insanely high. People, at least here in the west, are already crying about the increase due to Libyan conflict.

Very funny. Obviously the Indians here haven't met a Saudi or an Iranian. The Saudi kings can only hide behind their 500 wives and gamble away their oil fortune in Monaco. The Saudis will never dare to provoke Iran. The big ships and planes are just toys to show off to their children, they are unable to use it without America's permission.

Also, do you think America will ever let the Saudis attack Iran? All those 1000 planes, ships, etc, will not be able to function for a week without the help of American technicians. America will never allow Saudi to attack Iran, because the oil price will shoot to 800 dollars a barrel immediately and cause a global recession.

So there is no point in talking about Saudi attacking Iran. Their planes and ships are not their own.

lonelyone, saudis will use it against anyone when orders comes down from US. Ofcouse all those stuff will function smoothly by american technicians in order to keep the operations, conflict or war going.

What Iran has some of it is ancient, some of it is not so effective and some of it is effective but less in numbers. I think The most iranians would use against saudis in any war/conflict would be Ballistic Missiles and Cruise missiles and they are pretty effective. Target site most likely would be airbases and oil fields, such a damage would case a fortune for saudis thought iran would do down bad never to rise again but saudis will have their whooped.
