The world continues to arm the unmanned aerial vehicles it develops. Lockheed Martin has unveiled a new bomb intended to be dropped from UAVs.
The bomb, named Shadow Hawk, was tested on a UAV RQ-7 UAV, which is based on IAIs Pioneer UAV and manufactured by the US company AAI. The UAV carries a laser marker and the bomb locks onto the laser spot used to pinpoint the ground target.
The only details provided about the bomb were its weight approximately 5 kg, and its size nearly 7 cm.
The UAV is currently in extensive operational use in the US Army and the US Marine Corps.
Experts say that large UAVs will be armed with several types of weapon systems in the future, which will be operated according to necessity.
The test proves a growing military trend to arm UAVs with precise weapons systems
