Lockheed Martin has won a $14 million US Navy contract for support of the SQQ-89 undersea warfare system.

The contract features options that will bring its value to $169.5 million if those options are exercised.

The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 is a surface ship undersea warfare combat system. It has the ability to search, detect, classify, localize and track undersea contacts. It can also engage and evade submarines, mine-like small objects and torpedo threats.

The contract combines purchases for the US Navy and the Japanese government under the Foreign Military Sales Program.

Work will be performed in Virginia, California, Japan, Maine, Florida and Spain, with an expected completion date of June 2017. The Naval Sea Systems Command is the contracting activity.

The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Undersea Warfare (USW) System is an active/ passive sonar combat system intended for installation in a wide variety of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capable platforms, including Frigates, Destroyers, and Cruiser-type vessels.

The AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 USW System is designed to detect, locate, track, and engage targets. It transmits and receives acoustic signals to provide target classifi cation, time motion analysis, and control of ownship weapon settings. It provides multi-sensor track correlation, target track management control, and forwards data to the ship’s command and decision system.
