Local auto vendors seek to develop parts for aircraft, tank

Dude.. this is how Indian companies have started learning.. of source there are bigger companies involved.. but look at Mahindra defense... Tata defense production... they learnt using this path and are pretty successful...
You have a point. But making complete cars and making components is hell lot different tasks. If they have required tools/machines to make components (cars, tanks, crafts, etc.) given that they are provided with drawings, tech support, and raw materials, that capacity needs to be utilized. Having sub-contractors for producing sub-systems, components, etc. is a standard procedure even in developed countries including China. You develop the whole down-stream industry for manufacturing big/complex items. I think it's a very welcome development. We certainly need to explore it.
mates i understand what you guys are saying it would be great development to locally manufacture the the parts for tanks and jet.
what i am against is giving the contract to these crooks.they charge double the amount for half the quality cars they assemble in their plants. for god sake they are so profit hungry that they remove the basic safety features like airbags from their cars
take a look at Pakistani Toyota corolla and then compare it to the international one. you will see what my concerns are.

Great and sensible move not only we get more jobs from down words we create more skilled labours and top of it autoindustry it self grow with heavy engineering to bring new ideas in their automotive industry

build some quality cars first then we can talk.compare the low quality crap these guys are selling us for years to the actual model available in international market to see how matured these corner cutter are to work for the aerospace sector.
couldnt agree more. so far we have not been able to have engine built locally and are relying on knock down kits.

Good intentions. Downstream industries should be developed. It will contribute to our economy, and development for our engineering sector.

KARACHI: Local auto vendors are willing to start development of parts for tanks and aircraft manufacturing.

Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Chairman Mashood Ali Khan in a recent meeting with senior officials of Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) informed them that many of their member companies are matured to work for the aerospace sector and expected to play their role in aircraft manufacturing and maintenance.

PAAPAM members also met Chairman Pakistan Aerospace Complex Air Marshal Arshad Malik at an event held to commemorate the launch of Pakistan Aerospace Council (pac) as a platform for networking between Pakistani high-tech sector and its clients in Pakistan as well as the global market place.

Mr Malik gave an overview of the excellent order book and work load of PAC Kamra and its ability to localiSe aircraft assemblies required in military and trainer planes produced at Kamra.

He said Kamra valued specialist companies from the automotive sector who could take a step further into aerospace component manufacturing.

Imtiaz Rastgar, member PAC board, stressed on the need for cluster formation in the aerospace and high-tech sector and how this could lead to meeting local needs while the global market offers immense possibilities for similar parts.

He said there are over 2,000 aeronautics, defence and space related companies in Europe, employing 750,000 people with turnover of 190 billion euros. These companies import large quantities of parts and Pakistani high-tech sector companies mentored through the CBI Export Coaching Programme are already making respectable exports to Europe.

the number of orders we have and going to get for jf17 both domestic and foriegn and r news of more foreign orders of alkhalid & alzarar tanks and also work on new alhaider tank and possible tfx fighter r gonna commense in near future so public-private partnership is a definite need

How are you able to build just under 50% of a jet and cant produce a car engine yet?

I have an even bigger problem with this. None of the 'local manufacturers' are actually local. They are all subsidiaries of foreign companies. Up till now, as far as I know, our entire defence production line is Pakistan owned, and Pakistan based. This MUST continue. We CANNOT outsource our security to foreign interests. As soon as the likes of Toyota and Honda gain inroads to our defence equipment, it gives India another opening to try its subversive activities against us. This initiative gets a no confidence from me.

How are you able to build just under 50% of a jet and cant produce a car engine yet?

There is a difference between assembly and manufacture that is quite often blurred intentionally.

We have local vendors that can built engines locally and many other parts but there are no contracts from the Gov.
