MUMBAI: In a revolting incident that would spoil the appetite of Air India passengers, a lizard was found in the lunch tray of a passenger onboard its Delhi-London flight on Thursday.

The incident took place on Delhi-London flight AI 111 soon after it took off. "A passenger had asked for a special meal and so the flight attendant got his food tray from the galley. Soon after it was placed onto the tray, the passenger was heard screaming," said a source. The lunch, which was wrapped in a cling film, had a lizard scurrying from under a burger. "It was a shocking incident. A number of passengers did not have their meal," said a source.

The passenger concerned has filed a complaint with the airline. A comment from the airline spokesperson is awaited.
Said a cabin crew member: "For months now, we have been complaining to the airline management that the galley carts are not cleaned properly, but to no avail."

There have been instances wherein cockroaches were found in the galley cart, the attendant added. The unfortunate incident comes at a time when the national carrier is battling a huge debt of over Rs 40000 crore and one of the consequences was delayed payment to its caterers. "For months together the caterers had supplied meals on credit to the Air India. It then becomes difficult for the airline to crack the whip," said an airline official.

In a statement, Air India said it had investigated the incident and “found it to be false and baseless”.

“No such complaint by any passenger of the flight has been received on board the flight or at the Air India office in London,” the statement said.

In a major embarrassment for national aviation carrier Air India, a lizard has been allegedly found on a meal tray provided to a passenger on a London-bound flight from Delhi. Air India, however, rubbished the claim saying there's "absolutely no truth" in the claim.

The airline also claimed that no complaint had been filed by the passenger with either the aircraft crew or station manager.

The passenger on board Air India flight AI 111 had claimed to have spotted the lizard on the meal tray provided to him by the crew while travelling to London from the national capital.

While the aircraft crew offered to replace the tray, the irked passenger claims to have refused it and later filed a complaint with Air India.

The incident took place after the flight departed from IGI International Airport at around 1 pm on Thursday. The lizard was spotted in the first meal that was served as soon as the aircraft took off.

That's why I always order 'the usual'

And I thought PIA sucked lol...

Lizard? Trying new food ?

Actually, ever since PIA outsourced their catering to a Singaporean company ( I believe), there has been a dramatic change in quality. It's quite good now!

Although given the constraints of how airline food production, processing and storage are pushed tot he limits, it's advisable to avoid any airline food, across the board.
