You might be right. It's true that U S especially sees China as it's future rival/threat. European countries not so much as the US. Reason I agree some reports on China are more detailed and criticised than say in India.
However, you should also know that , India is some distance behind China in almost every field. So China being more industrialised/advanced/developed will obviously draw more attention and scrunity than India. When you are still way behind then your achievements tend to be talked about than a country who is far advanced/more developed. For example the U.S sent a Mars rover over 7 years ago(something no country has ever achieved and is a major technological feat given the distance and tech required) and this rover is still functioning well to this day having travelled over 22 kilometres so far and counting (that's huge). However it's not much talked about. Imagined say for example even China had done that, then it will be more talked about by media than US doing it. Simply because the US is already known as a technological superpower and an established world power long ago. Even Iran launching a major satellite in space will be more impressive for many than US landing someone on moon(they want to do it again in 2024). So as you can see it depends on stage of development as well.
