Literacy rate and education standard in Pakistan

He took the bait. They can never help themselves from doing it.

I can immediately spot these guys, no American will have the kind of knowledge or interest in the "flaws" of Pakistan and Pakistanis that these RSS "Brads" have. I have been observing them on the internet since as early as 2003, when you have that kind of experience it is really very easy to spot them. I used to interact with them on "Topix forum" some 10 to 13 years ago. And recently on Quora which has practically become a heaven for these online RSS psycho type indians.

I think I finally get the drift now! Prime example of what I was alluding to in my original post. Glad to see other members here are more objective and balanced. I'll take a cue from what Twain said and leave it at that (never argue with stupid people, they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!)

Whatever floats your boat, dude. You can call me whatever you like :)

Here's a tip for your next account sunshine; develop your character. Spend a few hundred posts pretending to be the all American "Brad" before you post paragraphs of bullshit basically asking why all the Pakistani's you know are stupid, yet all the Indians you know are not. No matter how much waffle you tried to hide that in, the stink of it came through.

You also then only engaged with any posts which called you Indian. If you genuinely weren't Bredjeet you'd have engaged with any of the other valid and varied points made, maybe expressed an interest in some of them, maybe challenged them - but no. All you did was try desperately to pretend you didn't know what was being said about you being a budbud from next door.

So good try, but like @Crusher I've been taking apart Bradeshs since 2001 - the stink comes through the computer screens. PDF has plenty of Indians who genuinely want to engage with Pakistan and infinitely more who just want to troll. We know the difference.

You guy's won't believe me.From first standard to 10th standard my school annual fees is 3 Rs only.

IMO biggest factor ragarding low literacy rate is lack of jobs after you graduate. When poor parents see highly educated people who are jobless they lose their confidence and opt for child labour.

2nd factor is low number of educational institutes when compared to students. For example there are 3000 slots for medical course in Govt. colleges however applicants are more then 100k. This leaves out a large number of students who have nothing else to do, so instead of wasting time on education which wont take them anywhere they opt for working from early age so atleast they can support their family.

Pay is same here too.

if you or your Parents judge education of the basis of jobs and how much money he will earn means that something is wrong with the general idea of why you enroll in any formal educational institution.

Hello all! I'm new to the forum and looking forward to constructive (even if sometimes contentious) discussions with fellow members in the days to come.

I'm curious to understand historical, cultural, and political reasons for why the literacy rate and educational standard in Pakistan/ with Pakistani people are so low. While I know South Asia was historically deprived, the other countries seem to have fared much better and made progress in literacy and education by leaps and bounds, at least when compared to Pakistan.

The other point is more of an observation. As I come across folks from many different backgrounds and cultures, including several from various parts of South Asia, those from Pakistan come across as less liberal and less versed in being able to hold their own in conversations and discussions as they relate to topics of science, technology, world politics, world history, and such. Similarly, their comfort level with the english language is much lower than other South Asians or even those from Middle East and Africa (I mention that only to wonder if that may be a reason for them being behind the curve compared to others, due to availability of enough/ quality educational content in your local languages).

Also, the frame of mind/ thinking patterns seem to be totally different, misaligned with how most of the others think (not just other South Asians in this case, but even Middle East, Africa, Europe, other parts of Asia, and certainly North America). Seems like the rest of the world has converged on a relatively singular/ well-aligned view of the world and how things work, but Pakistanis seem to think/ live in their own world that very rarely resonates with the rest of the world.

What are the reasons for this? Would love to get people's thoughts on this topic!
Education in the modern sense is to help the student learn important ethical values and to not to make as much money you can. it is mean to nature a child to a better person and in essence of Islamic schooling honest, humility, self sacrifice, respect for others, tolerance, pluralism and service to the needy. while in the current educational system neither the conventional schools and the so called "madrassas" teach such needed principles and the graduates we get are "padye likhe jahil"
To be fair almost none of the current educational systems in Pakistan give such schooling and environment, it is next to impossible for parents to give their children such an environment.
Then we have the rote system, even the "imported" educational systems are forced to use it. In essence the faulty education system has become rooted in the various regions of Pakistan. It will take many years to change the outlook of the current trend and many more to implement a better one.
Then we have the great risk that poor communities have to take, the true value and effect of education can only be seen after 15-20 years and until then parents who are poor and illiterates take a leap of faith to educate their children. The blind risk is very hard for people who barely are able to feed themselves and sometimes most people forget that.

You're clearly deluded and imagining things: e.g. I did not even <mention> Indians. I replied to good about 5 posters in my post, 4 of which were really interesting posts that I learned from - of course, you stood out in a different way. However, you made it amply clear you have no intellect, no objectivity, certainly nothing useful to contribute, and you proceeded to call me names - really the attitude of a defeated petulant child :)

I"ll hold my peace and put you on ignore. I'd rather engage with the more enlightened and learned folks on here. Goodbye and good riddance to bad rubbish! :)

Interesting... how's the tech (or non-tech) entrepreneurial/ start-up culture in Pakistan?
