Thanks for pointing out Indira Gandhi's speech on this issue. I have been saying this all along, as I found out from various sources, Mujib never wanted Independence. Rather he wanted to become Prime Minister of a federalized but united Pakistan, with more autonomy for East Pakistan under the 6 points. When he came out of jail, he even proposed something like this to Bhutto, not knowing the details of the civil war during the 9 months he was in jail. But he quickly came to reality when he was briefed by people in London.
1. Independence was the desire of other people, such as communists/socialists such as Bhashani, Shiraj Shikder, Col. Taher, Col. Ziauddin, Major Jalil et al., many of whom came of out Awami League after 1971 and formed Jatiyo Shamajtantrik Dol led by Maj. Jalil. 40,000 followers of Shiraj Shikder were later killed by Mujib between 1972-1975, with India's help using RAW trained Mujib Bahini, that later became Rakkhi Bahini.
2. Zia, Osmani and others were forced into wanting and declaring independence, because they were facing annihilation by West Pakistan army.
3. China follower communists like Md. Toha fought against Pak Army but opposed outright independence.
Groups 1 and 2 led the fight for independence. Tajuddin and other leaders of Awami League sat in Indian soil and many of them had a great time in Kolkata. Senior Awami League leaders like Mushtaq tried to end the war and keep Pakistan intact. Mujib Bahini led by Tofael Ahmed of Awami League and 3 others was RAW trained precursor of Rakkhi Bahini, that was assigned to make sure that Communists/Socialists do not hijack the war and that the war is led according to Indian design and plan. Mujib Bahini remained inactive during most of the war and moved into Bangladesh together with Indian Army as their forward troops.
In 1975, the same socialist group led by Col. Taher removed RAW affiliated Brig. Khaled Mosharraf, but unfortunately Zia betrayed him and killed Col. Taher. This created a rift between these two groups, right wing and left wing nationalists, and that eventually gave opportunity to India to bring the left wingers under Awami League (Inu, Col. Taher's underling is now biggest Awami operator and RAW handler).
Left wingers like Farhad Majhar did not sell out to India. Nor did Ziauddin, but now he is an old bearded businessman I heard and not involved in Politics and too old to help Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi intellectuals should come to their realization that we as a nation are incapable of full sovereignty and independence. We used to be Mughal Vassal, then we went under British colonial rule under Hindu middlemen (which was the worst), then we were vassals of West Pakistan (1947-1971) and in 1971 we became a vassal state of India (except when BNP has ruled). Now it is time to become a full vassal state of China to save us from India and their agent Awami League.
My suggestion, Bangladeshi nationalists should start holding meetings with Chinese politburo and make some plans to kick India out of Bangladesh. It will not happen in one day, it has to be a decades long plan. Since this will not affect the West in any significant way, I believe they will remain neutral about this. Essentially we need to make it clear to the West, that this fight is not against them in any way which Indians always try to portray using deception and labeling all of us as Jamati's, extremists, terrorists etc. Rather with China as partner we want to kick India out from this space. Yes, it will break China's containment, but what can we do? The West had their chance to help us, but they did not do anything for us, while India fkd us and keep fking us.
