Anyone know if another "Operation Sukoon" is planned?? Operation Sukoon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The IN definetly has the reach and is more cabable than 4 yrs ago + there are many more Indians/S.Asians in Libya than there were in Lebenon:

BBC News - Thousands of South Asians prepare to flee Libya
Deploy some of the Western fleet + maybe some MARCOS for security and go and get them, maybe even INS Jalaswa??
It would be good way to show India's military power.

If the situation so demands, GoI may deploy warships to evacuate Indian nationals. However, if the said evacuation, if needed, can be done with civilian aircraft, then there is no need to deploy any warships. Lebanon's case was different in that the airport was bombed out and IN warships were nearby (they were returning from a good will visit from the Mediterranean).

Rescuing 18,000 people with airliners is not a good option..it has to be done by the ships.

arnt they doing it through airlines . whats there to show military might as suggested by one of your members

Its not military might. Situations like this always involve military .. for example earthquake/flood reliefs and and all..

As of now there are no reports on any ships.. airport in Benghazi has been damaged in the unrest and was not available for use and efforts are there being made to access Tripoli airport so that evacuation can happen , ofcourse through Air india flights or else military ones.

Taking out 18000 people is a huge task even if a airliner brings 300 out then 60 of such flights would be needed many flights will have to be cancel best was is by sea

Just saw in the news now that the runway is damaged and planes cannot land...so air option is closed.

Evacuation of its nationals from a trouble torn region is the concern / responsibility of a Govt.

For this should the situation so demand all resources should be used. Military aircraft & ships is one such option. Moving them by land to ' safer' neighboring countries as an immediate step is also one of them. The logistics of evacuating 18000 a number mentioned in a post above is large.

Hopefully the situation in Libya will calm down to a point where such a situation may not emerge.

Any updates on the Indian evacution plans??? Just heard that :US,UK,Russia,Greece,China,France have all sent military planes/ships/ferries (China even sent a fishing trawler lol!) has GOI come up with any plans yet?? is a fleet being assembled??
