Liberal woman tried to rain on PTIs parade gets earful in return

Yeh bhi LUMS main professor hai?

BC LUMS to sahi kanjar khana ban gaya hai

From Ammar ali jan to Nida Kirmani aur ab yeh

Bhai jan, you will find people with burkas and turbans, then people in shorts and tank tops, and then everyone else in between at LUMS. You'll see the children of business tycoons in Karachi and of dirt poor shepherds in Gilgit room together in the dorms. You'll see Molvi Profs teaching Applied Math, die hard feminists teaching Islamic Anthropology, and world renowned foreign Profs teaching random courses. It is an educational institute where people adhere to academic principles, i.e. everyone is welcomed to express their opinion which is their right, opinions are responded to with arguments not character attacks or censorship, your worth is your ability not where you come from, not what you wear and not what you look like, you can do whatever you want as long as it is not against the law or anyone else's rights, but most importantly they live and let live. In fact, it's a testament to LUMS' academic tradition that it produces students and Profs from all walks of life with all sorts of socio-political views. Unlike most others churning out the same ignorant hordes year in and year out. This is the only way societies progress.

I bet my reputation that there is no other institution in Pakistan which adheres to academic principles the way LUMS does. Hence also the reason why it produces some of the brightest minds in Pakistan and has done it for decades now. At least it did when I was there. The rest of Pakistani educational institutes, in specific, and Pakistan, in general, could stand to learn a lot from there.

Btw, she was only a teaching fellow for a year at LUMS back in 2013. Teaching fellows are not professors by any stretch of the imagination. They are post grad students who help out with undergrad labs and tutorials. Sort of like a TA but with different duties. Also, Humanities/Social Sciences students are a bit weirder than the norm in the their political views everywhere, reasons for it are beyond the scope here. Just sit with a few and you'll know.

Please don't propagate untrue stereotypes around. We used to hear and laugh at these stories.

Not to forget the meet and greet LUMS was about to have with Mama Qadeer

Obviously, LUMS is a USAID conspiracy to destroy the social fabric in Pakistan: :D

LUMS was founded in 1984 by Syed Babar Ali and patronage of the business–industrial community spearheaded by Syed Aarim. With advice from the Harvard Business School and a $10 million grant from USAID it established a graduate business school in 1986.

Really? Are they? That too on social media? C'mon man.

Actually LUMS student bodies have a practice of inviting people from all walks of life, virtually every single one of them. The new found 'Messiah of Pakistan', Imran Khan, was a regular occurrence at LUMS back when no one else in Pakistan cared for him. Noam Chomsky, the Bugtis on both sides, Sportsmen, Musicians, Artists, foreign diplomats, everyone has been there. In fact, the most regular, attended and interesting talks have always been by DG ISPR. They started when the Army began its military operations in Swat. You know, the time when 99% of Pakistanis did not support them against the Taliban? Called them American stooges who were fighting against 'Muslim Brothers'? This is what educational institutes do. This is exactly what they are meant to do. This is how you convert Baitullah Mehsud's cousin against him. An educational institute's job is to get the discourse going and provide a safe environment for it, not control or limit it. The moronic tradition of our educational institutes to dictate students' views is exactly why none of them have ever amounted to anything, that is also how they die.

BTW, these guest talks are not arranged by the university. The university actually does not arrange any such events. They are arranged by student societies. And if you ever get a chance to attend one you'll realize that they are not about promoting the speaker's agenda either. These speakers are grilled by both students and Profs. You should've seen some try that with Major General Athar Abbas. Major Sahib was spectacular.

IIRC, the grant was for building LUMS' current campus. The University and the Business School were established well before that at a different campus.

Anything that is funded by US dollars is immediately suspect in Pakistan, is it not? :D

Do these talks have a you tube channel.

Do these talks have a you tube channel.

They were usually broadcast live on the University's portal. Don't know if they still are.

If she really a professor at LUMS? Absurd.

No she isn't and wasn't ever. She was a Teaching Fellow for a year. Teaching Fellows are post grad students hired to help with labs and tutorials, not very different from Teaching Assistants.

Would be interesting to understand the thought processes of students of some of the more liberal universities of Pakistan.
