ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended the proceedings of a case, filed by Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in a Lahore trial court demanding Rs50 million as damages from former Assistant DG FIA Zafar Qureshi for investigating the NICL scam and hence “defaming” the PML-Q.

A civil suit was filed in the court of Civil Judge Lahore by Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, brother of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat. The civil court admitted the petition and initiated the proceedings.

Zafar Qureshi approached the civil court and moved an application praying that he had done the investigation on orders of the apex court with all honesty and professionalism and that he was also immune from any court proceedings in this regard under Section 8 of the FIA Act 1975. However, the civil court of Lahore rejected his application. Qureshi knocked the door of the Lahore High Court and senior advocate Khawaja Saeeduz Zafar appeared on his behalf before the Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa on Monday. The LHC admitted the petition and issued notices and ordered suspension of proceedings in the civil court. The next hearing of the case is fixed for January 18, 2013.

Zafar Qureshi had investigated mega NICL scam involving billions of rupees and looted national wealth and had successfully recovered Rs1.75 billion.Qureshi had collected almost all the evidence and his hard work was applauded by the Supreme Court repeatedly.

However, Qureshi was removed many times from his position till his retirement to stop investigations in the NICL scam.FIA did not present the evidence collected by Zafar Qureshi before the session court and Moonis Elahi was acquitted in the case.
