Having said that, lets be clear, there is no way the US can succeed unless it is on the side of Muslims - US has a structural problem, it's congress, media and culture abhor Islam and muslims - and Obama cannot change this by himself...

I have seen several studies regarding US opinion on Islam, and it mostly neutral. There is a great deal of contempt for the cultures of the middle east (Corruption, treatment of women, living off US oil money, yada, yada) ,and racial fears regarding "Arab looking" people. However, if you actually ask an American what they think of Islam, they usually claim to think it is "all-right"
