LeT planning terror strikes on New Years; PM Modi, Parliament, nuclear installations targets

Delhi: Intelligence agencies have issued an alert regarding terror attacks by LeT at various locations in the country during New Years, as per media reports.



As per a report in India Today, intelligence agencies have warned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Parliament building may be on the radar of the terror group.

At the same time the LeT may also target nuclear installations and Army headquarters.

The report, quoting intelligence agency sources, also said that around 20 terrorists may have entered the country from across the border to carry out the attack.

Yesterday, the Centre had asked all states to be extra vigilant to thwart any attempt by terrorists and subversive elements to disrupt peace, particularly in popular tourist destinations, during the new year festivities.

Intelligence agencies have issued a country-wide advisory asking all states to deploy additional forces in crowded places like railway stations, bus terminus, markets and religious places to foil attempts by terrorists to carry out attacks.

The police forces of major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Goa have been asked to be extra vigilant during the upcoming new year celebrations.
