Indian troops 'kill leading Kashmir militant'

Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say security forces have shot dead a leading militant commander.

Abdullah Simi had been accused of planning the attack on a Hindu temple in India's Gujarat state in 2002.

A police spokesman said the commander was killed in a gun battle at a house in Poonch district on Sunday night.

He said the killing was a major blow to the Jaish-e-Mohammad group. More than 30 people were killed in the attack on the Akshardham temple in Gujarat.
