What's new

LDC graduation may cost Bangladesh $7.0b worth of exports a year

Lmao poor mentality of Bangaldesh , we better establish making automobiles, smartphones, popular apps etc to eventually move away from scamming garment industry.

Japan and U.S is helping us with other technologies cause they see we will have to make other stuff than clothing to smoothly shift out of LDC.

Bangaldesh can't forever be making clothing , it has to start making other high tech and quality products.

We are a small nation , we must be technologically advanced to grow our economy to the maximum.

But as usual corrupt leaders would not want to get out of LDC just for its benefits.

By 2024 other countries except us to make our own quality shît and not clothing for western brands.

Not middle income it's lower middle income and then middle income

Bd by no means is small country, your population is more than 160 million people. Your Gdp is in the middle strata of countries with around 300 Billion US Dollar.

The next step of industrial process is automotive sector driven by building more highways, Autobahn and railway system accompanied by telecommunication and home appliances industry

.
Lmao automation would make less jobs and we will end up with people with no jobs.

The ONLY WAY Bangladesh can graduate successfully out of LDC is to manufacture high tech products like smartphones , computers etc with quality.

Or just apps that solve current issues, Bangaldesh needs innovation not think backward.

First: Automation will.lead to tech jobs.
Second: even with auto.you need labourers to do lot more works. Now, the size of business will expand due to profits. So one guy makes enough money with automation to invest in another factory. That's how ecosystem is created.

That's a misconception, indeed, it is a false notion created by certain industry quarters to hinder the rise of automation.

It's has more to do with business then it has to do with 'saving' jobs.

Automation can be introduced in phases which in effect will make it complementary to a skilled human workforce rather than being a supplement to human workers.

By the time automation is introduced in Bangladesh in significant numbers, our masses will have already moved on to more skill based manufacturing, If not into other services based sectors.

You need to go back to Bangladesh and make a company there, it is always a responsibility of upper middle class people to do such kind of endeavor. It can be started from running a business in a service industry that later can be expanded into manufacturing ones that can absorb many people.

As you live in US so you have connection with people living in US, start targeting US market by using your connection there so that you can make higher profit and expand Bangladesh economy.

I am actually doing that in about 2-3 years once I graduate from university and land a good job. More of the diaspora investing would be a good step.

I can say better work in US first for couple of years to get some sort of credential, for some service even you can still live in US since we can use internet for working while you hire people to operate your business in Bangladesh with much less labor cost. After the business becomes solid then you can permanently go back to Bangladesh.

West based Bengalis almost never invest in Bangladesh, they're too busy with their lives in the west.

But almost all expats who return from the Mid East, go into business. If the government would make the reintegration process a bit smoother for expats, I could see people coming back in droves from Arabia and starting up businesses.

Agreed, for a business to flourish you need experience, grit and determination, getting into a trade is easier in the west than it is in our home countries....

Once skills have been acquired and you're confident in your business planning and strategy, then it is time to start something.

Government of Bangladesh is making it easier for startups to gain funding, especially tech based ones can easily avails funding directly from GoB under the a2i (access to information initiative)....

I believe our red tape and policies need to be simplified, we can reverse the brain drain and have educated people return to Bangladesh....

A certain portion of these people will have the entrepreneurial streak in them, these are the people the government needs to nurture and back.

I have been thinking of that since my dad is a business man , but again investing in Bangladesh is hard. It's not a investor friendly country

But yeah I agree

I agree , we can definitely do it for sure .

We need our own Elon Musks , Bezos etc

India still hasn't recovered from the losses in the garment sector after LDC like status was withdrawn in 2006 or something. Back then India used to export more garment than BD and the industry was growing at an healthy pace. Now the growth has stagnated or very slowly. BD eventually would face that issue. Only one way to keep it competitive is either very low wages or automation.
No way BD can resist from being tagged a developing country within a few years because of its large volume of exports. In case of India, it has already built many industries involving mechanical, electrical and electro-magnetic technology. It can DESIGN and build its big civil engineering projects by its own engineers.

So, BD will suffer more than India did because it has no mechanical engineering-based industries. Many of its civil engineering projects are done by foreign companies.

Our leadership sûcks , Bangaldesh can't make much when it comes to civil projects of high tech things.

After 2024 Bangaldesh is going to start to suffer , it might hopefully force the nation to start building its own projects and high tech stuff

That Is The Idea Behind These Preferential Treatments. The Money Gained From Increased Exports Is Supposed To Help The Countries Go To The Next Level Industrially and Technologically

Then Use The Money Gained From Duty Free Access To Higher Education and Technology And Build Tech and Knowledge Based Industries Otherwise You May Be Caught In Middle Income Trap.

Corruption Is Prevalent Everywhere But Should Be Controlled To The Extent It Does Not Hinder National Development

We would of already done that already , again Bangaldesh is trying and has massive potential to become big.
