BAHAWALPUR, April 24: Situation turned ugly here on Tuesday when angry lawyers attacked the courtroom of a civil judge, broke windowpanes and raised slogans against him for hearing cases despite their strike.
Reports said scores of members of district bar association gathered in front of the courtroom of Civil Judge Chaudhry Saeed Ahmed Akhtar. As the lawyers attempted to enter the courtroom, the official staff closed the doors of the courtroom. At this, the furious lawyers allegedly broke the windowpanes, and removed judgeâs nameplate and raised slogans against him.
According to eyewitnesses, the judge, in a bid to protect himself, left the courtroom using the door of his retiring room. No complaint has been lodged with the police by the civil judge so far.
The striking lawyers alleged the judge began hearing of cases as they were demonstrating to express solidarity with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the members of high court and district bar association observed complete strike on Monday to express solidarity with the suspended CJP.
The district bar members also brought out a protest rally from bar room and marched up to Farid Gate where their leaders addressed them. On their way back, the lawyers staged a sit-in at the GPO Chowk.
The bar associations also adopted resolutions condemning Pemra notice against Aaj TV.
