The Indian Army carried out an operation in Arwani in South Kashmir earlier this week using specific technical intelligence to track down and kill three Lashkar terrorists in Kashmir in an encounter involving a car chase and a brief gun battle.

The three terrorists killed by the Indian Army include Lashkar's main operative the Naugam area - Showkat Lohar - who had joined the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation in 2016, and Muzaffar Hajim, another local who had joined the Lashkar earlier this year.

The operation was executed by the 19 Rashtriya Rifles unit, which looks after the Anantnag area and has been highly successful in counter terrorist operations after killing top Lashkar terrorist Bashir Lashkari recently.

Relatives mourn during the funeral of Showkat Lohar, who according to local media was killed in a gun battle with Indian security forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag district

The Army, with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police's technical cell, had been tracing the mobile phone of one of Lohar's close accomplice and keeping a track on his plans and meetings.

'During one such interaction, the police came to know about Lohar's movement and plans to visit a particular locality in Arwani after which the 19 RR laid down a plan to take him out,' an Army source told Mail Today.

Based on the inputs received, the Army team deployed eight mobile vehicle-checking points in the area to intercept the SUV in which the terrorists were travelling.

The movement of the terrorists was being tracked continuously all the while they were on the move. On Sunday, the troops were waiting for the terrorists but they managed to slip away from there.

However, Monday was not so lucky for the terrorists as the 19 RR troops identified them in a moving vehicle while they were escaping from one of the check-posts.

As the terrorists were trying to escape, the 19 RR troops chased them in their armoured jeeps, and after a brief chase, crashed their vehicles on the terrorists' car forcing it to stop.

The terrorists got out of their vehicle and tried to launch a final assault with their AK-47s but the Army troops opened bursts from their automatic rifles and in less than five minutes, the two local terrorists along with a Pakistani civilian were lying dead on ground, the sources confirmed.

The 19 RR is one of the units under the Victor Force of Rashtriya Rifles, which has been successful in eliminating 11 terrorists in July.
