just how powerful does a laser need to be to burn a small hole clean through a person from 2KW away and how long would it take you think to do so.

I would love to see 100KW laser on a AC-130
like the one Lockheed wants to field on the F-35

It has been developed few years ago after that the core issues are beam alignment and target acquisition by combination of small AESA radar and electro-optical sensor for small target tracking and designations.

But in 2014 they have made significant progress. Waiting for a test anytime.

Looks like these weapons will be included on 6th gen fighters

the expensive part is R%D
the electricity cost to shoot the laser is the range of a few cents to $1 I believe
compared $50,000 to fire a single missile from the Iron Dome.

yeap Rus told they will use carbon nano tubes in building fighters in future; and in su-35 titanium composite alloy used which have reduced weight of sukhoi. and also radar signature by some extent.

But the main system for destroying UAV, cruise missile, fighters, choppers is 25 KW system already developed and under testing.

Now they are developing this new 100 KW solid state laser.
